10,000 kms Setúbal to Brussels in the Hyundai Tucson: a road trip to take the pulse of European Union voters.

International news channel Euronews is currently on a road trip throughout Europe ahead of EU parliamentary elections to talk to voters about the issues they face in their everyday lives. The aim: to capture the diversity and vibrancy of the continent in 2019.

For this 10,000-kilometre journey, they have chosen the Hyundai Tucson. Hyundai’s best-selling model in Europe is driving through 14 countries over a period of 10 weeks. The journey began in Setúbal, Portugal, on 18 March and will arrive in Brussels on 23 May just in time for the start of the European elections.

In its quest to take the pulse of EU voters, Euronews has already visited many countries to speak to local voters before the May elections. In each country visited, a pair of Euronews reporters goes to work, each pair composed of a native English speaker and a reporter who is local and speaks the language of the country being visited. New episodes of the Road Trip go live via the Euronews TV channel and across social networks every day from Monday to Friday during the journey. By the end of the road trip, the Euronews team and their reliable Tucson will have passed through Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Austria, the Czech Republic, Poland, Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium.

Using an inflatable red sofa, the Euronews team conducts spontaneous sit-down interviews. The reporting crew therefore required a vehicle that could confidently transport its equipment – and the sofa – around Europe. The channel selected the Hyundai Tucson, with its generous cargo capacity starting at 513 litres with the rear seats in place and expanding to as large as 1,503 litres when these seats are folded.

We are proud that the renowned international news channel Euronews chose the Tucson, our best-selling model in Europe, for their journey across the continent. Thanks to its bold design, engaging and efficient performance and high level of safety and connectivity features, the Tucson is certain to be a reliable travel companion over this long distance.

Hyundai Tucson: comfort and reliability for the long run

The Hyundai Tucson features the latest Hyundai SmartSense™ active safety and driving assistance features. These comply with the highest European safety standards: Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Driver Attention Warning and Intelligent Speed Limit Warning. Furthermore, the safety package includes Hyundai’s Surround View Monitor, which uses cameras to provide 360° vision during reversing. Additionally, bi-LED headlamps, the High Beam Assist and rain-sensing wipers provide high visibility at all times. Using front radar sensors, the Tucson’s Advanced Smart Cruise Control keeps constant speed and distance from the vehicle ahead by automatically accelerating and braking to ensure an efficient and safe ride.

The Tucson provides comfort in any position thanks to its eight-way power-adjustable passenger seat and up to 10-way power-adjustable driver seat, which includes two-way power lumbar support. In the back, passengers can adjust the angle of their seatbacks with the SUV’s rear reclining seats, for an even more relaxing journey.

A further benefit to the television crew on its ambitious road trip, the Tucson’s smart power tailgate makes loading and unloading heavy or bulky items easy. The system automatically opens the tailgate when the driver approaches the car, as long as the smart key remains within the detection zone for three seconds or more. Before the tailgate opens, there is a discrete audible signal and a brief flash of the hazard warning lights.
