“An absolute triumph” – motor journalists lavish praise on the i30 N

The i30 N is Hyundai Motor’s first high-performance car under the N line-up. Built on the New Generation i30, it has been developed from the ground up to deliver maximum driving pleasure in everyday life on the road, as well as on the track.
Hyundai Motor recently invited motor journalists from around Europe to experience the i30 N for the first time at a test drive event in Rome. Here’s how the press reacted after they got behind the wheel of the car for the first time.

Press material

The first reviews of the i30 N are in, and the international press have been effusive in their praise. Here’s what they had to say about Hyundai’s ‘corner rascal’.
1. The BBC’s Top Gear said the i30 N as a “massive success”, particularly praising its performance. “The Hyundai i30 N is exactly the car its maker needs it to be. It’s harder and sharper than I expected, and establishes the N brand as both surprisingly sporting and assertive.”
2. Evo Magazine lavished praise on the i30 N, awarding it the maximum five stars, calling it “a pretty stunning first effort from Hyundai’s N division.” The publication praises Albert Biermann and his team for the car’s chassis, which delivers “maximum precision in its most aggressive settings – which you’d expect given his background – but also a surprising range of comfort and refinement when you dial it all back down via the various electronic drive modes.”
3. The Daily Mail described the i30 N as a “corker”, highlighting that it will appeal to all kinds of driver due to its versatility as an everyday sports car. “It will suit couples, or small families, who want a practical, stylish city car with poke.”
4. The Daily Telegraph considers the i30 N an “astonishing performance model”, going on to say that Hyundai have “redesigned, refined and tuned and created a likeable road burner.”
5. The i30 N is “an absolute triumph”, according to The Sun, which says it is a “rousing performer”. The British newspaper compares it favourably to its rivals. “Faster, stronger and cheaper than the VW Golf GTI.”
6. Autocar awarded the “extremely impressive” i30 N four stars, acknowledging Hyundai’s aim to cram in as much performance for the least possible cost to drivers. The publication praised the interior of the car: “The seats are decently low and supportive, and there’s plenty of adjustability in the steering column. That’s a big tick in the box in this segment.”
7. Whatcar also rated the i30 N with four stars, offering warm words for its abundance of features. “It offers far more toys than its rivals. The standard car comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, sports seats, red brake calipers, automatic lights and wipers, privacy glass, adaptive cruise control, front and rear parking sensors and a rear-view camera.”
8. Auto Express declares the i30 N “a great car to drive” in its five-star review. As well as praising Albert Biermann for helping to develop a “terrific chassis” and “brilliant steering”, it notes that it offers “more quality and equipment inside than most of its rivals.”
