How the media reacted to Hyundai Motor's 2017 model launches

Throughout 2017, Hyundai has unveiled a number of new cars to journalists from around the world. These events have taken the form of world-famous motor shows in Geneva and Frankfurt, as well as exciting model premieres in stylish cities like Milan and Düsseldorf.
Here’s a selection of some of the praise the new models have received from the world’s media in the past twelve months.

1. The UK’s Daily Telegraph praised the i30’s design and interior, as well as its driving performance: “The ride comfort is exceptionally good, the noise suppression levels are off the charts and the drivetrain is refined to the point of near-silence during partial throttle openings.”
2. Germany’s Bild heralded the i30’s built-in assistant systems: “What sets the i30 apart from the numerous competitors are the various assistant systems. High-beam assistant, fatigue alert, city emergency brake and an active tracking assistant are already standard in the basic model.”
3. Meanwhile, Spain’s Marca highlighted the car’s driver cockpit, which boasts simplified connectivity, centre console, and easy-to-read instrumentation, with particular praise for another feature: “The steering wheel deserves special attention. The thickness and feel are almost perfect and make driving especially pleasurable. Definitely a big plus.”
Hyundai Motor launched a series of new vehicles in 2017, including the All-New Kona, its first subcompact SUV, and its first high-performance model under the N line-up: the i30 N.

i30 Wagon and FE Fuel Cell Concept


4. The 2017 Geneva Motor Show took place at the Geneva Palexpo convention centre in March, among the i30 Wagon and FE Fuel Cell Concept were unveiled to the media. Autocar hailed the i30 Wagon’s cargo room. “With the rear seats up, it can swallow 602 litres of luggage and with them down that number grows to 1650 litres.”
5. The Daily Telegraph described the FE Fuel Cell Concept as a “smart and sophisticated-looking car” – one that “reaffirms Hyundai’s commitment to Hydrogen”.

The All-New Kona


6. In June, automotive journalists from around Europe descended on the style capital of Milan for the world premiere of the All-New Kona. The BBC’s Top Gear stated that Kona’s big draw was its “unashamedly bold” styling, while also focusing on its wealth of features. “Tons of customisation available inside and out, a head-up display, wireless phone charging and all sorts of active safety tech”.
7. Italian publication Corriere della Sera remarked that the Kona is tipped to appeal to a younger audience and acknowledged the name’s inspiration from the surf district of Hawaii. “Kona has all the features of the trendy urban SUV, with two-tone bodywork and the latest technology.”
8. Meanwhile, Austria’s meinbezirk.at noted that “Style and design bring the new Kona into the fashion city of Milan” and that style and individuality were big themes for Hyundai at the car’s premiere.
9. The All-New Kona was later given its public debut at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show in September. French publication Auto Plus published testimonials about the vehicle from some of its readers. Start-up boss Christian praised the vehicle for embracing innovative in-car technology. “Hyundai had a very good idea! The Kona has an induction charger that keeps phones charged. With it, you can finish charging the smartphone on a flat surface with the batteries lying flat.”

i30 Fastback


10. The city of Düsseldorf in Germany was the location for an i30 Double World Premiere, as Hyundai revealed the two latest members of the i30 range: the i30 Fastback and the i30 N. The cars were later displayed at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. Autocar had warm words for the i30 Fastback’s shape. “The Fastback has a lower nose and sleeker roofline than its siblings, mixing the lines of a five-door hatch with the rear of a coupé”.
11. Italian website Quattroruote said that the premium style of the i30 Fastback introduces new elements for the C-segment, and that this “opens the door to a wider target audience than ever before”.
12. Following the Frankfurt Motor Show, German publication Heilbronner Stimme described the i30 Fastback as a “dynamic five-door coupe, and reported on how the i30 range demonstrated Hyundai’s success in Europe, saying that the brand models are “excellently processed and offer a lot of value for money”.

13. Top Gear praised the i30 N’s “wonderfully driver-focused touches”, reserving particular praise for its “big hugging” sports seats, manual handbrake and illuminated rev-counter.
14. Spain’s abc.es described the i30 N as a sports car for every day, either for commuting during the week or taking to a race track at the weekend. It says: “the i30 has been developed from scratch to achieve maximum driving pleasure, both on and off the road”.
15. After the Frankfurt Motor Show, Spain’s MotorZeta remarked on the i30 N’s sportiness. “The i30 N grabs the silhouette of the i30 and redesigns it to create a more aggressive and sporty vehicle thanks to its huge air intakes in the front that form a very muscular and low bump.”
