A disappointing performance two years ago at UEFA Euro 2016™ saw England surprisingly knocked out against Iceland in the second round. On this occasion, they'll be hoping to reach the latter stages of the 2018 FIFA World Cup™. If they make it all the way to the final, they'll line up at Moscow’s 81,000-capacity Luzhniki Stadium.
England start in Volgograd
With players like Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling and Dele Alli, England have some of the most exciting players in world football and the team is expected to make it out of Group G with relative ease. The only question is whether they can finish ahead of tournament dark horses Belgium.
England’s first match is against Tunisia at the Volgograd Arena on 18 June, a re-run of their opening match in the 1998 FIFA World Cup™, which they won 2-0. This is followed by a clash with minnows Panama at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium on 24 June, before their final group game against Belgium in Kaliningrad on 28 June.
Can England go all the way in Russia?
England are expected to qualify from their group with relative ease, and are likely to face either Colombia or Poland in the second round. Then things start to get tricky. If they manage to make it to the quarter-finals, they are likely to face either Brazil or Germany.
Winning a FIFA World Cup™ requires some luck along the way, and if England do manage to surprise any naysayers and make it to the semi-finals, they could face Didier Deschamps’ France side. If they make it to the final, they could face Lionel Messi’s Argentina or 2010 FIFA World Cup™ champions Spain. There’s no easy games in international football, after all!
