Press material

Hyundai Motor achieved its best start into the year in Europe with the best first quarter results according to new data published by the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA).
The company’s strong sales performance, with an increase of 6.9%, results in a total number of 135,074 registrations in the first three months of 2017.
Thanks to our new line-up, including models like the New Generation i30, and our increasing presence in new segments, we are attracting new customers to choose Hyundai. With the extension of our product portfolio, we are positive to continue our success to become the number one Asian car brand in Europe. Today, 90% of the Hyundai cars sold in Europe have been designed, tested and produced in Europe. Our strong European focus has proven to be a key pillar in our success and is driving sales.

Thomas A. Schmid Chief Operating Officer at Hyundai Motor Europe

Hyundai Motor is increasing its appeal to customers all over Europe, and the company’s vehicle sales continue to grow across key European markets. Sales in France (+30%), Spain (+11%) Germany (+10%) and the UK (+10%) have been particularly strong in the past three months compared with the same period last year.
With no model older than two years, the brand’s young product range of 13 different models has contributed significantly to the success. Driving Hyundai Motor’s overall performance in Europe, the i20, the New Generation i30 and the Tucson continue to post high sales volumes. Especially in the UK, sales of the IONIQ – the world’s first eco-friendly car to offer hybrid, plug-in hybrid and all-electric powertrains in a single body type – reached a new high.
Looking ahead, there will be more new products to help maintain this positive momentum for the brand. Together with the extension of the i30 family, Hyundai Motor will be expanding its SUV family with a unique sub-compact SUV – the All-New Hyundai Kona. This all-new B-SUV will be the brand’s fourth SUV in Europe, joining the Grand Santa Fe, the Santa Fe and the Tucson. The Hyundai Kona is an important milestone in Hyundai Motor’s journey to become the leading Asian automotive brand in Europe by 2021, with the launch of 30 new models and derivatives.
