Hyundai Motor has ranked first with two of its models in the prestigious Automotive Brand Contest.
The i30 Fastback has been recognised in the category ‘Exterior Volume Brand’ and the all-new fuel cell electric vehicle NEXO gained its accolade in the ‘Future, Mobility & Parts’ category. These latest successes follow several other major industry and design awards presented to Hyundai in 2018. Furthermore, it is the second consecutive year of awards for Hyundai in the Automotive Brand Contest, after the three prizes won in 2017: two for i30 five-door in the Exterior and Interior Design categories and overall Best Brand of the Year.
Winning two Automotive Brand Contest awards with our i30 Fastback and NEXO is further recognition for the innovative concepts of these two models. These accolades not only recognise the appealing design, but also the progressive technology of Hyundai models. It demonstrates that we are on the right track with our brand strategy as our products are loved equally by customers and design and technology enthusiasts.

Best exterior design: Hyundai i30 Fastback

As in 2017, a Hyundai i30 family member again collected an Automotive Brand Contest award this year. The newest i30 bodystyle, the Hyundai i30 Fastback, beat its competitors in the exterior design category, recognising the successful execution of this first five-door coupe in the compact car segment. A strong stance and sporty, elongated lines characterise its stylish and charismatic design. The sophisticated silhouette features dynamic sports coupe proportions and a very sleek, teardrop shaped cabin. The classic and elegant coupe brings a unique and new approach to the C-segment, underlining Hyundai’s commitment to innovation and customer choice. In addition, customers benefit from excellent practicality for daily use. The wide range of Hyundai Smartsense active safety and driving assistance equipment contributed to this model receiving the maximum five-star rating from Euro NCAP.

Best mobility concept: All-New NEXO

NEXO was the first fuel cell electric vehicle to complete an autonomous driving journey of 190 kilometres: Three vehicles based on the NEXO equipped with level four self-driving technology drove autonomously from the Korean capital Seoul to Pyeongchang. This test drive was the first time for any autonomous car to drive continuously at speeds of 100 to 110 kilometres per hour over such a long distance. Following the Hyundai ix35 Fuel Cell, NEXO is Hyundai’s second-generation fuel cell electric vehicle and a flagship for the brand’s future mobility strategy. NEXO has been honoured in the category ‘Future, Mobility & Parts’, combining the practicality of an SUV crossover with advanced electrified technology, comprehensive driver assistance functions and appealing design. The best-in-class driving range of 666 km*, autonomous driving technology such as Remote Smart Parking Assist and the car’s pure and calm design marked out the All-New NEXO as the winner in this category.

Automotive Brand Contest: a major car award

The Automotive Brand Contest is one of the most important car awards in Germany. Held annually by the German Design Council, its jury consists of media representatives, designers and members of educational institutions. Founded in 1953, it is the only international design award competition exclusively for automotive brands.
The winners of the Automotive Brand Contest will receive their awards on the first press day of the Paris Motor Show as part of a celebratory award ceremony on October 2, 2018.
