Hyundai Motor Company today announced global sales results for July 2021. The company sold 309,901 units globally last month, a decrease of 2.4 percent from a year earlier.
Overseas Sales
The company sold 250,045 units outside of Korea, up 4.2 percent from a year earlier when global sales were seriously affected by COVID-19. Recovery of demand drove sales increase in many global markets, including North America, South America, and Russia, where market conditions have improved.
Korea Sales
Sales in Korea decreased 22.6 percent year-over-year to 59,856 units due in part to disruption in the semiconductor chip supply chain. Also, July sales in Korea were down in comparison to the sharp increase last July that was driven by pent-up demand.
This July, sedan models, including Grandeur (known as Azera in some markets), sold 5,247 units. Meanwhile, despite the overall sales decrease, Genesis luxury brand models, maintained steady sales with 11,950 units, including the G80 sedan and GV70 SUV selling 5,028 and 3,792 units, respectively.
Hyundai Motor expects that on-year sales growth could be slowed down for the rest of this year amid adverse business conditions caused by the resurgence in COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the unstable supply of semiconductor chips. However, the company will endeavor to sustain its sales momentum for the rest of the year and proactively cope with the risks.
