The campaign, developed by the United Nations, Spanish Automobile Club RACE and Hyundai to promote road safety and sustainable mobility in different locations along the Way of Saint James, has achieved great success in terms of attendance. Called “Together in the safest way”, more than 600,000 people, including schoolchildren and adults, have received training and information on responsible attitudes behind the wheel (and also as pedestrians), as well as on eco-driving. This has been carried out by expert monitors from the RACE, who have been assisted by "La Electroescuela", the educational project of Hyundai Motor Spain.
The “Together in the safest way” campaign, counted on the participation of DGT (The National Traffic Authority in Spain) and the insurance company Santalucía, and was carried out from 19 October to 5 November in the towns of Santiago de Compostela, Sarria, Astorga, León, Burgos and Logroño. The large trailer truck that serves as the UN Mobile Training Unit, as well as several models from Hyundai's electrified range, were present at all these locations.
The different points of the Way of Saint James to carry out this training action were chosen with the aim of achieving optimal coexistence between the inhabitants of the towns (whether children or adults) and pilgrims in their different journeys, both on foot and in any means of transport. By contacting directly with all these people, it was possible to transmit a greater awareness about safety and sustainability.
Sustainable Development Goals
Hyundai's collaboration with the United Nations and RACE makes it possible to outline training actions under the “Sustainable Development Goals” approach, promoted by the UN, which go into the fields related to the environment, sustainability and health, among others.
For Leopoldo Satrústegui, General Manager at Hyundai Motor Spain, "participating in this action led by the United Nations and RACE has been a source of great pride for our company."
At Hyundai, we always focus our activity on a better and sustainable society for the planet, and this campaign promotes these same values. In the case of the automotive industry, the vehicle powered by clean energy is already on the streets; we just have to get to know it and experience driving it to break with all the myths and barriers that even today part of society still has when it comes to getting into zero-emission mobility.
Hyundai Oasis: rest and connection points
Thanks to this collaboration with the United Nations and RACE, Hyundai Spain also made the so-called “Hyundai Oasis” available to pilgrims at different locations of the Way of Saint James. These were small exhibition centres for Hyundai's electrified range of vehicles in rest and refreshment areas, with drinks and food. In addition, thanks to the connectivity systems of the Hyundai vehicles, the cars acted as Wi-Fi repeaters, giving the people resting in them the possibility to connect to the vehicle's internet network.
With these training and support actions, Hyundai continues its roadmap for building a better world through its mobility products and services. With its ever-present company philosophy, Progress for Humanity, Hyundai is committed to promoting the creation of a sustainable society through the deployment of zero-emission technologies and building trust in society for an orderly energy transition for everyone.
