The most successful year for Hyundai Motor in Europe finished with 505,396 registrations, according to the latest data from Europe’s auto industry body, ACEA.
The company’s strong sales performance, with an increase of 7.5% in 2016, surpassed the European car market average growth. The second consecutive record sales year came thanks to Hyundai’s renewed product line-up: 90% of the models are younger than two years old making it the newest model range in Europe.
Important models have finished in its first full year of sales, the Tucson was exceptionally successful. The compact SUV is Hyundai Motor’s fastest selling new model, with sales of over 150,000 units in 2016. Particularly strong markets were France, Italy and Spain with high growth rates between 17% and 20% compared to the previous year.

The second consecutive year of record sales marks a further important step in our goal to become number one Asian car brand in Europe by 2021. New product launches have driven our growth and we look forward to further success in 2017, as we introduced the New Generation i30 family and the IONIQ line-up. Within this year we will also announce enhancements and new models in other segments, expanding our model range to appeal to a wider audience.
In 2017, Hyundai Motor will profit from a full year of sale for the New Generation i30 which is now available at the dealers across Europe. And the i30 family will be extended as further members will be introduced. To emotionalise the brand the first high performance version, the i30 N, will be launched in the second half of 2017. Furthermore, the IONIQ range will be completed with the IONIQ Plug-in in the course of the year.
