On Thursday, January 29, Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Czech (HMMC) produced its five-millionth vehicle. This milestone symbolically confirms the long-term stability, technological maturity, and strong position of the Nošovice plant within European automotive manufacturing.

The jubilee vehicle was a Hyundai Tucson Hybrid in the GO Czech edition, personally collected by a Czech customer directly at the plant. The customer had the opportunity to follow the production of the vehicle on the assembly line through final assembly and to participate in its completion, for example by installing the steering wheel or applying the Hyundai emblem. After completion, the customer received a symbolic key from the management of Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Czech and Hyundai Motor Czech.

The Hyundai Tucson has long been the dominant model in Nošovice production. Its third generation, produced between 2015 and 2020, exceeded 1.1 million units, and the current generation will even exceed this figure. Together, these two generations account for nearly half of the plant’s total production since the start of operations.

The i30 model has been produced since 2008 and is now in its third generation. Nearly 1.5 million units have been produced, including the high-performance i30 N and its two limited editions – Project C and Drive N. Other models manufactured at the plant include the ix35, the predecessor of Tucson, the ix20, and the Kia Venga.

Since the start of production, vehicles from HMMC have been exported to more than 90 countries worldwide. While the majority of production is destined for European markets, vehicles are also delivered to customers in the Middle East, Africa, Oceania, and Latin America.

A major milestone in the plant’s history came in 2020, when production of electrified vehicles began in Nošovice, including the fully electric Kona. Since then, more than 650,000 electrified vehicles have been produced, nearly 200,000 of which were Kona models, underscoring the plant’s gradual transformation toward more sustainable mobility. At that time, the Kona Electric became the first mass-produced electric vehicle manufactured in the Czech Republic.

This step was followed by the conversion of a hall originally used for manual transmission production into a battery system assembly (BSA) plant operated by Hyundai Mobis. The first part of the operation was launched in autumn 2022, with full operation starting in August last year. Current capacity is 360,000 battery systems per year and will increase to 450,000 units annually in June. The facility employs more than 600 people and supplies battery systems not only for vehicles produced at HMMC but also for Kia’s plant in Žilina.

Alongside production growth, HMMC’s involvement in new model development has significantly evolved over the years, as has its level of independence from the parent company in Korea. While the Nošovice plant previously entered the development process during late testing phases, today it is involved already at the drawing stage.

HMMC contributed approximately 50% to the development of the current-generation Kona Electric, production of which began in 2023. For the next new model, which will start leaving the plant in autumn this year, this share is expected to reach around 75%.

Plans for 2026

A key milestone of the coming period will be the launch of production of a new model. This will mark the beginning of a gradual renewal of the model portfolio in line with Hyundai’s long-term production and product strategy. Further details will be announced at a later stage.

The company continues to invest in modernisation and sustainable manufacturing. At the beginning of the year, construction of an on-site photovoltaic power plant with a maximum output of up to 5 MWp was completed. In the first half of the year, 118 electric vehicle charging points will also be commissioned in employee and visitor parking areas.

Ongoing automation of production processes remains an integral part of the long-term strategy. In January, technologies for automatic windshield positioning on the assembly line and automatic measurement of door and hood alignment accuracy in the body shop were introduced. In the second half of the year, automated paint defect detection is planned for the paint shop.

The production plan for 2026 foresees output of nearly 265,000 vehicles, with electrified models accounting for approximately 50% of total production.

Employment and Wage Growth

The Nošovice plant has long been one of the region’s most significant employers, offering above-average remuneration and a wide range of employee benefits. In 2025, the average monthly wage in production positions reached CZK 58,767.

From January 1, 2026, base wages increased by an average of 4.8%. For the most common OP3 operator position, base pay rose by CZK 2,100 to CZK 45,500, with the monthly bonus increasing by an additional CZK 1,000 to CZK 4,000. Employees will also receive a one-off bonus of CZK 30,000 with their February salary.

HMMC employs nearly 2,900 people, 94% of whom are Czech citizens. The average employee is 40 years old and has worked at the plant for more than ten years.

New President of HMMC

As of January 1, 2026, Sanghoon Yoon has been appointed President of Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Czech. He joined Hyundai Motor Company in 1995, starting his career in production management at the Ulsan plant. From 2002 to 2007, he worked at HMMA in the United States and later held senior positions at Hyundai headquarters focused on business strategy. In 2025, he was responsible for the Business Planning subdivision at Hyundai Motor Company headquarters.

After three years as President of HMMC, Changki Lee, who has been with the company since 2019, has been promoted to Head of Ulsan Production Division overseeing Hyundai’s five plants in Ulsan, Korea.

2025 Overview

In 2025, the Nošovice plant produced a total of 276,175 vehicles. The Tucson remained the dominant model (76%), followed by the Kona Electric (13%) and the i30 range (11%). More than half of production was electrified – hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions of the Tucson accounted for 38%, while the fully electric Kona represented 13%.

Approximately half of total production was exported to key European markets: the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, France, and Italy. The Czech Republic ranked eighth among export markets, with more than 11,000 vehicles delivered.

Diesel-powered vehicles accounted for 6.6% of production, petrol vehicles for 80.7%, and electric vehicles for the remaining 12.7%. Automatic transmissions continued to gain popularity, equipping 74% of produced vehicles, while manual transmissions declined to 13%. The remaining 13% consisted of single-speed transmissions used in the electric Kona.

The three most popular body colours – Ecotronic Grey, Abyss Black, and Atlas White – together accounted for approximately 50% of all produced vehicles.
