Hyundai Motor Reports 2025 Global Retail Sales Results

Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai Motor) today announced global retail sales of 4,108,605 vehicles in 2025, a 2 percent increase compared to 2024, reflecting the company's resilience amid a challenging global market environment.

Global Powertrain Performance

Hyundai Motor's flexible powertrain strategy continued to deliver results in 2025, with electrified vehicle sales approaching 1 million units globally.

Hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) led the electrification momentum, with global retail sales of 611,783 units, a 32 percent year-over-year increase. Battery electric vehicles (EVs) totaled 269,169 units, up 17 percent. Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) reached 44,124 units, a 21 percent increase, while fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) grew 58 percent to 7,047 units.

Combined electrified vehicle retail sales (EV, HEV, PHEV, FCEV) totaled 932,123 units, representing approximately 27 percent of Hyundai's global sales mix.

Despite significant market volatility, regulatory uncertainty, and intense competition, we grew global retail sales by two percent – driven by record-breaking performance in North America, strong momentum in Europe and MEA, and steady growth in Korea.

Building on this momentum, Hyundai Motor continues to advance its electrification strategy through expanded local production, a broader global EV lineup, and new technologies supporting its multi-path approach. These efforts support the company’s progress toward its 2030 targets of 5.55 million global sales and 3.3 million electrified vehicles, while strengthening customer trust in every major market.

Regional Performance

North America (HMNA)

North America delivered exceptional results, with retail sales reaching 1,192,919 units, an 8 percent increase year-over-year, making it the company's strongest-performing region globally.

In the United States, Hyundai Motor achieved total sales of 984,017 vehicles, an 8 percent increase year-over-year, establishing a record for the third straight year, led by annual sales records for Elantra, Tucson, Santa Fe, Palisade, IONIQ 5 and Venue.

Canada delivered strong results with Hyundai brand sales of 154,405 units, an 11 percent year-over-year increase. Hybrid retail sales increased 77 percent, reflecting strong consumer adoption.

Mexico contributed 54,497 units, up 2 percent, with hybrid sales growing 27 percent.

In North American markets, Hybrid retail sales surged 47 percent to 217,061 units. Sales of electrified vehicles recorded 308,376 units, accounting for 26 percent of the retail mix.

Central and South America (HMCSA)

Central and South America achieved retail sales of 321,338 units, a 3 percent year-over-year increase. The region saw exceptional hybrid growth of 188 percent to 11,322 units as Hyundai expands its electrified lineup in Central and South American markets.

Europe (HME)

In Europe, Hyundai delivered 603,782 retail units, flat year-over-year as the region navigated significant regulatory changes and shifting consumer demand patterns. Electrification momentum accelerated significantly.

EV retail sales jumped 49 percent to 112,266 units, while PHEV sales grew 39 percent to 35,833 units. Hybrid retail sales increased 10 percent to 121,472 units. Electrified vehicles now represent nearly two-thirds of Hyundai's European sales mix, positioning the company well for evolving regulatory requirements.

India (HMI)

In India, Hyundai Motor delivered 574,536 retail units last year, reinforcing its position as one of India’s most trusted brands. Hyundai will launch 26 new vehicles in India over the next four years. EV sales in India grew dramatically, increasing more than 750 percent year-over-year to 7,661 units as Hyundai expands its EV offerings in this high-growth market.

The company is designing and developing vehicles specifically for Indian consumers while leveraging India as a strategic export hub for global markets. The upcoming Pune plant will further strengthen Hyundai's ability to serve this market.

Middle East and Africa (HMMEA)

The Middle East and Africa region delivered a standout performance for the year with combined retail sales of 317,270 units, a 5 percent increase from last year. Hybrid retail sales grew 61 percent to 33,249 units as customers increasingly embrace electrified powertrains.

Asia Pacific (HMAP)

Asia Pacific retail sales totaled 193,454 units. Hybrid retail sales were a bright spot, growing 61 percent to 40,332 units across the region.

China (BHMC)

In China, retail sales from Beijing Hyundai Motor Company (BHMC) recorded 125,726 units. Hyundai is transforming its China business to compete more effectively in an intensely competitive landscape, focusing on differentiated products, enhancing operational efficiency, and pursuing export opportunities to extend the reach of its China-based production.

Korea

Domestic retail sales in Korea grew 1 percent to 712,954 units, demonstrating steady demand in Hyundai's home market. Electrification continued to accelerate, with EV sales growing 22 percent to 55,489 units and hybrid sales increasing 21 percent to 187,560 units. FCEV retail sales grew 78 percent to 6,809 units, reflecting Korea's leadership in hydrogen mobility.

Genesis Global Performance

Genesis sold 221,482 retail units globally and achieved record results in the United States.

Genesis Motor America delivered 82,331 vehicles, a 10 percent increase versus 2024, achieving best-ever annual, quarterly (Q4), and monthly (December) results. GV70 led the brand with 33,876 units sold, up 26 percent, while GV80 achieved 23,799 units, up 4 percent.

The GV80 Coupe delivered exceptional growth of 166 percent in its second year in market. Genesis remains on track toward its 2030 growth objectives (350,000 units annually), which include expanding global sales, launching hybrid models beginning in 2026, and strengthening its position as a leading global luxury brand through exceptional design, technology, and customer service.

2030 Strategic Outlook

Hyundai Motor remains committed to its 2030 strategic targets:

  • Global Sales: 5.55 million vehicles
  • North America Sales: 1.44 million vehicles, up from 984,017 (Hyundai + Genesis) in 2025
  • Electrified Vehicle Sales: 3.3 million units, representing 60 percent of total sales
  • Operating Profit Margin: 8-9 percent
  • Hybrid Expansion: More than 18 hybrid models, supported by the next-generation TMED-II system
  • Genesis Hybrids: Launching in 2026
  • Extended Range EVs (EREVs): Launching in 2027 with 600+ miles of combined range
