Winner by design: Hyundai i30 adds Red Dot Award to list of accolades

Hyundai’s new statement car in Europe has now been recognised by the Red Dot Awards and iF Design Awards, two of the three major design awards in the world.
The latest accolade is an ‘Honorable Mention’ in the Transportation Design in the Product Design category at the Red Dot Awards. Along with an award for the Hyundai Azera, this was the fourth year in a row that Hyundai cars have been recognised by the Red Dot jury, this year made up of 21 international design experts.
The car's design was praised for its precise and refined lines giving it a timeless and confident appearance. The i30, which revealed its Wagon version at the Geneva International Motor Show, is one of the first Hyundai models sporting the company’s new signature design feature, the ‘Cascading Grille’ which Chief Designer at Hyundai Motor's European Design Centre, Thomas Bürkle, has described as: "inspired by steel mills with liquid iron flowing like a waterfall".

Since its public debut at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, the New Generation Hyundai i30 has been turning heads and it has already racked up some prestigious awards for its eye-catching car design.

Design is the number one factor

Car design is the number one factor why Europeans choose to buy a Hyundai model. The third generation of the i30 was designed in Hyundai Motor Europe’s Technical Centre in Rüsselsheim, Germany, and is produced in Nošovice, Czech Republic.
The Red Dot prize is the i30’s third international recognition following the PIN UP Design Awards and 2017 iF Design Awards. The PIN UP Design Awards are annual awards in the international design industry run by Kaid, the Korea Association of Industrial Designers.

Fourth time in a row for Hyundai recognition

The iF awards, running for more than 60 years, are one of the most prestigious awards in the world of international design prizes, and are presented on an annual basis by the iF International Forum Design in Germany. The New Generation i30 received the ‘iF Design Award 2016’ in the product category, the fourth time in a row that Hyundai cars have received recognition from the respected authority.
And it’s not just the i30’s car design that has got people talking. Two of Germany’s most well-known automotive specialist magazines have ranked the i30 number one in comparison tests. “Auto Bild” described the Hyundai model as “a completely honest and practical car” praising driving and engine performance along with connectivity and driver assistance systems. Meanwhile “Auto Zeitung” ranked the i30 number one in its comparison test of four leading compact class vehicles.
