Hyundai Motor UK retail partner, Devonshire Motors, has been named EV Advocate of the Year at this year’s AM Awards, which celebrate achievements in the motor retail industry. This accolade shines a light on Devonshire Motors' commitment and impactful strides in communicating the benefits of Hyundai’s range of cutting-edge electric vehicles to its customers.
Already a success story within the Hyundai Motor UK network, Devonshire Motors was named Hyundai Future Mobility Retailer of the Year in February 2023, with electric vehicles accounting for 34% of its sales. As of January 2024, that figure is now 36%.
The future of automotive new car sales is clear, the legislation and timeline are set. Taking a proactive approach to clean mobility, developing sales and aftersales teams who are experts in BEV technology, and developing a business plan to play a key role in the transition is an essential part of our retail strategy – and the only way to ensure a successful future in automotive retail. Winning the AM Award for our commitment to EV is genuine recognition for a team who are truly dedicated to delivering the best experience for our customers and is testament to the fact that they are doing it better than others in the industry.
The AM Awards recognised not only Devonshire Motors’ impressive performance but also the innovative techniques it has used to build its success. It has, for example, integrated EVs such as KONA Electric, IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6 extensively within its loan car fleet and incentivised test drives of electric vehicles without the immediate pressure of sales. All loan cars are handed over with a full explanation of how best to use the cars, completely demystifying the experience for consumers who may have little or no EV knowledge.
This education process extends to Devonshire Motors’ marketing efforts, too, with an EV Easy' campaign across all channels which promotes the Hyundai fully electric range, and includes a free home charge point with all new Hyundai EV purchases. The team also produces its own social content, covering practical use, myth-busting, and normalizing EVs.
Further innovations are planned, too, including an AI assistant for the website capable of referencing unique EV content and benefits, a new bespoke EV training module that sits in addition to the Hyundai-provided EV training for staff and the potential for a Hyundai rapid charging hub on-site, pending a planning decision.
Devonshire Motors exemplifies our vision of modern retail in the automotive industry, where the focus is on sustainable mobility and innovative customer experiences. Their proactive approach and commitment to educating customers about electric vehicles has set a benchmark for us and I’m delighted that the team at Automotive Management have also recognised their achievements.
