Hyundai Motor has updated its i40 with design enhancements, new safety features and upgraded powertrains.
The refreshed look and improved specification aim to maintain the appeal of the i40 to European customers, while the updated engines meet latest Euro 6d Temp emission standards. The enhanced i40 is offered in sedan and wagon body types.
Elegant style with fresh appearance
Hyundai’s i40 is characterised by its comfortable roominess for passengers and luggage. The updated design creates a fresh and modern appearance within the D-segment. The fluid and dynamic profile is enhanced with the strong look of the new front, featuring the new Cascading Grille, Hyundai’s family identity. New 18-inch alloy wheels complement the sleek profile, creating a wider choice for customers in addition to the 16- and 17-inch alloy wheels of its predecessor.
The i40 offers two new interior colours: Merlot Red and combination of Grey and Black. Customers can now opt for four colours in total with Black and Beige. Full leather trims are available for all colours, with Black and Beige also offered in cloth. Matching the seat colour, the interior options include a contrasting inlay on the door panel for an elegant and calm styling inside the car. The Grey-Black combination interior colour is combined with black door panels and orange accents. The Merlot Red interior features a grey stitching and Merlot coloured door centre trim elements. Furthermore, the dashboard is garnished with a stylish metal mesh pattern that enhances the elegant look of the Merlot Red and Grey interiors.
New active safety features
For a comfortable and safe ride, the i40 is now fitted with Hyundai SmartSense active safety and driver assistance features. The Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) alerts drivers to emergency situations, braking autonomously if required. Using camera sensors, FCA operates in three stages: initially warning the driver visually and acoustically, it controls the brake according to the collision danger level and applies maximum braking force to avoid a collision or minimise damage when a collision is unavoidable. The system is activated when a vehicle is sensed in front of the car, operating at speeds of 10 km/h or above.
New efficient powertrain
Hyundai has revised the powertrain line-up for a better driving performance and for improved fuel efficiency, meeting the new Euro 6d Temp emission standards. The i40 is now available with the newly-developed Smartstream 1.6-litre diesel engine in two power outputs. The standard engine version offers 85kW/115 PS and 280 Nm of torque mated to a 6-speed manual transmission (6MT) (fuel consumption combined in NEDC conversion: 4.6 – 4.3 l/100km; CO2 emissions combined in NEDC conversion: 120 - 113 g/km). For even more driving fun, the high performance version of the Smartstream 1.6-litre diesel engine achieves an output of 100 kW/136 PS and 320 Nm of torque and it can be paired with either the efficient 7-speed dual clutch transmission (7DCT) (fuel consumption combined in NEDC conversion: 4.7 – 4.3 l/100km; CO2 emissions combined in NEDC conversion: 123 - 112 g/km) or the 6MT (fuel consumption combined in NEDC conversion: 4.6 – 4.3 l/100km; CO2 emissions combined in NEDC conversion: 122 - 114 g/km). Smartstream powertrain technology increases performance and reduces real-life fuel consumption.
Alternatively, the i40 is available with the 1.6-litre petrol engine (fuel consumption combined in NEDC conversion: 6.7 – 6.2 l/100km; CO2 emissions combined in NEDC conversion: 153 - 142 g/km). The 1.6-litre GDI with a six-speed manual transmission generates 97 kW/ 135 PS. The entire engine line-up of the i40 meets the new Euro 6d Temp emission standards.
