The new Hyundai Tucson is showcasing a more dynamic appearance that embodies the company's progressive vision for future mobility. It inherits the essence of the current model's "Parametric Dynamics" design language while evolving with a more refined and powerful aesthetic.

Exterior Design

Hyundai’s designers departed from traditional drawing techniques for Tucson’s redesign, opting instead for advanced digital technology and geometric algorithms, a method known as “parametric dynamics”. This innovative approach uses digital data to generate lines, angles, and shapes, resulting in bold and unprecedented design aesthetics. Throughout the SUV’s exterior, striking geometric patterns, also known as “parametric jewels”, are prominently displayed, giving the model a forward-looking character.

One notable example of these parametric jewels is evident in Tucson’s front grille, where Parametric Hidden Lights leave a strong first impression. In its inactive state, the grille showcases dark geometric patterns, seamlessly blending with the signature LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs). The recognisable ‘angel wing’ design was reimagined with larger DRLs and retained the half mirror effect nestled within the grill, refined with laser-cut precision and surface light treatment to create a fully illuminated effect. Additionally, a new front bumper design was introduced, offering glossy black mouldings as an option and a new skid plate for added protection. Updated grill meshes contribute to the modernised look of the model’s front.

However, when the DRLs illuminate, cutting-edge half-mirror lighting technology transforms the grille’s appearance into jewel-like shapes, adding an attention-grabbing element to its sleek design. Tucson features Projection LED with IFS Headlights, offering improved illumination and visibility in various driving conditions. LED turn signals and LED rear fog lamps (exclusive to the N Line variant) ensure enhanced visibility and safety on the road. The LED MFR headlamps with static bending light functionality enhance visibility around corners, while LED Daytime Running Lights combined with Position Lights offer both style and safety benefits.

Tucson customers can choose from eleven exterior colours, including five new options: the launch colour Cypress Green Pearl, Ecotronic Grey Pearl, Ultimate Red Metallic, Jupiter Orange Metallic, and Sailing Blue Pearl. Moreover, the N Line launch colour is Serenity White Pearl with a black two-tone roof.

Tucson’s length has increased due to the new bumper design, with a ten-millimetre extension for the standard model and a 20-millimetre increase for the N Line variant. Tyre options for the plug-in hybrid and full hybrid versions include 17-inch, 18-inch, and 19-inch sizes, depending on the specific model and trim.

The N Line variant maintains a sporty yet refined and elegant appearance with dedicated front and rear bumper designs, updated grill meshes, the same DRLs, 19-inch alloy wheels, and body-colour wheel arches and sides.

Interior Design

The interior of the new Tucson prioritizes spaciousness and practicality, achieved through a horizontal design that creates a sense of openness. The seamless integration of advanced technology elements ensures a harmonious blend of functionality and aesthetics.

With a significant redesign, Tucson’s interior offers a refreshed look. Leading the segment in technology integration, Tucson features a customisable digital experience centred around a new 12.3-inch AVN touchscreen. Soft-touch materials elevate the interior feel, while new indirect air vents enhance airflow.

The interior layout enhancements include an instrument display housed around the 12.3-inch digital cluster, creating a more spacious feel. The dashboard seamlessly merges with the doors, enveloping front occupants for a futuristic ambience. Redesigned features such as the steering wheel and ergonomically positioned armrest enhance usability and aesthetics. The crash pad has been converted to a horizontal layout with an open tray, and the upper door trim offers a new design.

Ambient mood lighting, offering 64 colours and ten brightness levels, adds a personalised touch, positioned in various areas including the centre fascia and wireless charging pad. The seats boast a new pattern and material options, while a new interior colour, Cypress Green, offers further customisation. Additionally, the N Line variant introduces distinctive features, such as red stitching and textile suede & leather trim in Obsidian Black.

Roominess & convenience

Tucson’s dynamic proportions and platform provide a wide, open interior space that guarantees occupants comfort and roominess usually reserved for models in the segment above. The N Line variant has been increased by 20 millimetres. The boot offers between 546 and 620 litres overall for luggage, depending on the chosen trim and powertrain.

Connectivity & technology

Tucson comes packed with an array of cutting-edge technology features tailored to enhance the digital experience for users. The Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) integrates Audio, Video, and Navigation functionalities into dual curved 12.3-inch displays, creating a personalised and intuitive space. The use of a grid system ensures consistency across the AVN interface, while the integration of Amazon Music, and other streaming music services in the future, allows users to enjoy their favourite tunes on the go. The cluster display follows the Seamless Horizon brand concept, with linear image elements transformed into motifs for aesthetic coherence.

Tucson’s ccNC also offers full Over-the-Air (OTA) capabilities, ensuring continuous improvement and eliminating the need for manual software updates. In the future, Feature on Demand (FOD) will offer a range of customisable solutions and functionalities, further enhancing Tucson’s capabilities.

With the new Tucson, Hyundai introduces its new Bluelink® scheme. Customers can benefit from ten years of Bluelink® Lite for free and will be able to enjoy a six-month free trial of Bluelink® Pro. Once the Bluelink® Store is launched in early 2025, customers will be able to choose among Bluelink® Lite, Plus, and Pro subscriptions. Bluelink® Lite consists of essential services, like OTA updates, while Bluelink® Plus and Pro offer more advanced features.

Safety and convenience are augmented by the inclusion of a 12-inch Head-Up Display (HUD), presenting essential vehicle information directly on the windshield to minimise driver distraction.

The Intelligent Front-Lighting System (IFS) enhances exterior illumination using matrix beam LED technology, adapting to road conditions for optimal visibility while minimising glare for other drivers.

Through ccNC, wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto enable seamless integration of iOS and Android smartphones with Tucson’s infotainment system. Other features include a premium KRELL sound system, a wireless charging pad, and front and rear USB C-type ports for added convenience, particularly during long journeys.

Bluelink® Connected Car Services

The next-generation vehicle architecture, combined with the ccNC infotainment system and cluster, offers a range of new benefits and services for Hyundai customers, including Connected Routing, Last Mile Navigation, and a User Profile feature. Meanwhile, customers can locate their vehicle, lock, and unlock it remotely, or view vehicle attributes like fuel or battery level, via the Bluelink® app.

Occupants can tailor their individual infotainment choices with the User Profile feature. This allows customers to install up to two main accounts and one guest account, and upload a profile picture via the Bluelink® app. The User Profile stores users’ infotainment preferences, such as language, Bluetooth, navigation, and voice recognition settings, as well as their favourite radio stations, in the cloud.

If drivers have to park their car within a 200-metre to two-kilometre radius from the destination, Last Mile Navigation can be activated to resume the guidance in the Bluelink® app on the driver’s smartphone.

In addition, Tucson will feature calendar integration inside the infotainment system, meaning the user will be able to see their Apple or Google Calendar on the AVN screen. Synchronisation is done via Bluelink® app settings. This is just one more reason for customers to use and download the Bluelink® app.

With the new cloud-based Connected Routing navigation, driving routes are calculated on a powerful server inside the Bluelink® cloud environment. This ensures more accurate traffic forecasting, more precise times of arrival, and more reliable route recalculation. As an additional benefit, ccNC introduces Global Search with an autofill functionality, making it easy to search for addresses, points of interest, infotainment system menus, contact information, and songs from Amazon Music. The Global Search menu is accessible via the icon or the dedicated key.

Finally, Hyundai LIVE Services adds real-time parking information and fuel station locations including prices, as well as weather information. Destinations or points of interest can also be sent from the app to the in-car navigation system.

Advanced safety & driving assistance features

With comprehensive advanced driver-assistance systems and a wide-ranging active safety package, Tucson delivers peace of mind for Hyundai customers.

The model is outfitted with an enhanced seven-airbag system, which features a first-row centre-side airbag. This prevents front-row passengers from colliding with one another in the case of a collision, minimising the risk of serious injuries. When the deployment of the airbags is triggered by a front or side impact, Multi-Collision Braking automatically applies emergency brakes to reduce the risk of secondary, or multiple, collisions.

Hyundai Smart Sense sets Tucson apart, offering a range of advanced driver assistance systems for heightened safety and convenience in various driving and parking scenarios. These features surpass industry standards, demonstrating Hyundai’s commitment to providing cutting-edge safety technology.

Available Hyundai Smart Sense active safety and driving assistance features:

• Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist 1.5 (FCA 1.5): this autonomous braking function can detect not only cars but also pedestrians and cyclists. FCA 1.5 now includes Junction Turning, which expands the range of protection to include collisions at intersections while turning left.
• Leading Vehicle Departure Alert (LDVA): warns the driver when the vehicle ahead of them starts moving forward in cases where there is a delay to their reaction, for example at traffic lights.
• Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control Curve (NSCC-C): this system uses the all-new Tucson’s navigation system to anticipate upcoming curves or straights and adjusts the vehicle speed for safer driving
• Highway Driving Assist 1.5 (HDA 1.5): as a combination of NSCC-C and LFA, it regulates the car’s speed and maintains its distance from other vehicles in front, as well as the current lane of travel on the highway.
• Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA): This feature alerts drivers through audio and visual warnings when they are driving too fast and exceed the speed limit. Later this year, an infotainment OTA update will make it possible for drivers to mute the warnings and only receive speed limit information.

• Rear Cross-traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA): sounds a warning in case of the risk of a rear collision from crossing vehicles while reversing.
• Safe Exit Warning (SEW): alerts occupants if there is oncoming traffic when they attempt to step out of the car.
• Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA) [with HEV/PHEV only]: aids drivers when parking and pulling out by autonomously moving forward and reversing the vehicle, even if outside of the car. The feature can be activated and controlled via the Smart Key.
• Surround View Monitor (SVM): upgraded so that drivers can experience a 360-degree, three-dimensional view of the vehicle from various viewpoints.
• Blind-spot View Monitor (BVM): offers an enhancement of the views on the side mirror, and also provides additional visual support in dark and rainy conditions.
• Rear Occupant Alert (ROA): monitors the rear seats via a radar that detects movements or breathing. Visual and auditory warnings are then relayed to the driver to ensure they remove passengers from the rear seats before leaving and locking the vehicle.
• Lane Following Assist (LFA): automatically adjusts steering to help keep the vehicle centred in its lane. This works together with the Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) function, which detects road edges as well as lines.
• Driver Attention Warning (DAW) is a driver protection feature which helps monitor driving patterns to detect fatigued driving and prevent potential accidents. This works in tandem with LDVA.
• High Beam Assist (HBA): detects both oncoming vehicles and those in the same lane ahead at night, as well as changing to low-beam as appropriate, thereby reducing blinding effects on other drivers.
• Crosswind Stability Control (CWC): works against strong winds at high driving speeds by applying partial braking and steering torque control, improving driving stability.

Ride & handling

Tucson consolidates its true SUV credentials with 4x4 capabilities. This is thanks to its Terrain Mode selector, which provides even more enjoyment for drivers. Meanwhile, customers can choose between two different suspension systems, with both adaptive and conventional dampers for enhanced ride and handling.

Four-wheel drive and Terrain Modes make the all-new Tucson a true SUV

Tucson’s Terrain Mode feature, available in the hybrid version with automatic transmission, uses Hyundai’s signature HTRAC four-wheel drive technology. This enables agile handling and better torque application depending on wheel grip and vehicle speed. In addition to different drive modes, three additional terrain modes – Mud, Sand and Snow – optimise the driving performance and HTRAC settings for an enhanced driving experience on a variety of terrain.

Meanwhile, conventional dampers use a valve technology that offers more tuning flexibility. A MacPherson strut on the front and multi-link suspension on the rear ensure good levels of comfort and handling.

Tucson’s Rack-mounted Motor Driven Power Steering (R-MDPS), which features a Belt Drive steering gear, was tuned to match the character of the vehicle’s suspension. Over the course of many months of testing with both prototype vehicles and cutting-edge engineering simulation and virtual development tools, Hyundai’s engineers have finely calibrated the system to ensure drivers can experience smooth and connected steering. New powertrain

Tucson caters to a diverse range of drivers by offering four electrified powertrain options and two internal combustion engines with three transmission choices. With petrol and diesel 48-volt mild hybrid, full hybrid, and plug-in hybrid options, it boasts one of the most extensive selections of electrified powertrains in the compact SUV category, catering to various preferences and environmental concerns.

A notable addition to the Tucson lineup is the upcoming two-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid variant, set to debut in July 2024, showcasing Hyundai's commitment to expanding eco-friendly mobility solutions.

Hyundai has introduced the second generation of Green Zone Driving Mode, exclusively available in the plug-in hybrid variant, to encourage zero-tailpipe-emissions driving. This feature uses geofencing technology, enabling the vehicle to seamlessly switch to pure-electric mode in designated low-emission zones or areas with emission restrictions, promoting a greener driving experience.

Additionally, the hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants offer Paddle Regenerative Braking Mode in ECO mode. This feature allows drivers to customise the intensity of regenerative braking using paddle shift levers on the steering wheel, offering three levels of deceleration control for improved convenience and fuel efficiency.
