Hyundai Motor has released the fourth episode of Are We There Yet?, its bi-weekly podcast hosted by motorsport and technology presenter Suzi Perry.

In “How our cars make you fall in love”, Perry invites two guests from Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Center, Design Department – Tayo Osobu, Senior Manager Colour and Trim, and Nicola Danza, Exterior Manager – to talk about automotive design.

During the fourth episode, Osobu and Danza speak to Perry about the importance of design for the overall driving experience, how design trends in the automotive industry have shifted over the last few decades, as well as how bold designers can be regarding a car’s exterior.

I think, as a designer, you always have to be bold. From the beginning until the end. If you start with something quite crazy at the beginning of the process, it's much easier to calm it down a little bit rather than do the opposite: starting with a boring car and try to pump it up in the end. You can be as bold as you want as long as you have very good proportions.

Along with sharing what sparked their love of cars and stories of regrettable design decisions, Osobu and Danza also talk about the evolution of the TUCSON’s design, the growing prominence of in-car technology, and the interior of IONIQ 5.

What I especially like on IONIQ 5 is this feeling of space. The interior doesn't fit you like a glove anymore. You really have space to move, and it gives you the freedom to just sit differently. I like that a lot. Also, its different rows, design-wise, have a different interpretation from what they had before. It's really exciting!
