Hyundai is celebrating more success for its new, all-electric IONIQ 6 after it was crowned ‘Best Company Car’ at the 2023 Autocar Awards.
The prestigious awards, held annually by the world’s oldest motoring magazine, recognize the very best of the automotive industry and this year were handed out a ceremony held at Silverstone Wing, at the heart of Britain’s famous grand prix circuit.
The IONIQ 6 emerged triumphant ahead of a number of contenders from established premium manufacturers in the ‘Best Company Car’ category, with Autocar’s panel of expert judges particularly impressed by the Hyundai’s bold design and advanced electric powertrain.
It’s unsurprising that Hyundai’s second flagship EV, the IONIQ 6, makes an instant impression with its looks. Hyundai’s styling has become among the most innovative on the market and it has really pushed the envelope with its EVs. An extroverted streamlined saloon may not be the most obvious choice of company car, but at a time when car parks are heavy on identikit crossovers, the IONIQ 6 is quite a statement. At the same time, it is a cutting-edge EV offering 800v architecture, ultra-fast charging, a large battery, good mechanical efficiency and a class-leading range. Add to that generous rear seat space and enjoyable driving manners, and it is plainly a highly impressive electric car.
The award from Autocar is the latest in a series of coveted accolades for the IONIQ 6. Earlier in April, it picked up a hat-trick of top prizes at the World Car Awards, where it was crowned World Car of the Year, World Electric Vehicle and World Car Design of the Year. In addition, SangYup Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of Hyundai and Genesis Global Design Center, was named World Person of the Year in recognition of his creative input into the car’s groundbreaking design.
The IONIQ 6 was also named ‘Saloon of the Year’ at the 2023 GQ Car Awards. Plus, its excellent safety credentials were endorsed as it achieved a five-star safety rating and ‘Best in Class’ selection in the ‘Large Family Car’ category from Euro NCAP. And its potential as a highly desirable fleet car was identified by Fleet World, who crowned it ‘Best EV Compact Executive Car’ at the Great British Fleet Awards.
Orders for the IONIQ 6 opened in November, with prices starting at £46,475, and first deliveries will be made in May. Customers have a choice of either a rear-wheel drive powertrain offering 228PS and 350Nm or an all-wheel drive powertrain with 325PS and 605Nm. All models feature the long range 77.4 kWh battery, with the E-GMP platform’s standard 800v charging system providing 350kW ultra-fast charger compatibility, and generously equipped Premium and Ultimate trim lines are available.
The IONIQ 6’s innovative design and advanced electric powertrain combine to create a car that is both stylish and – as this award proves – an incredibly desirable and cost-efficient choice. It’s enormously gratifying to receive such a wholehearted seal of approval from the respected panel of experts at the world’s oldest car magazine.
