Hyundai Motor UK registered 14,874 cars in September, achieving its best-ever September market share of 5.4%. It represents year-on-year growth of 20.1%, supported by strong sales for Hyundai’s SUV and alternative fuel vehicle offerings.
In September, 52% of Hyundai Motor UK sales were Alternative Fuel Vehicles (AFVs), with a total of 7,727 units sold across Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs), Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs), and full Electric Vehicles (EVs). This achievement places Hyundai fourth in the market for alternative fuel sales in September and fifth year-to-date.
The SUV segment remains a key driver of Hyundai's performance, with 10,868 units sold in September, accounting for 73% of total sales. The TUCSON continues to be a standout model, with 5,799 units sold, making it the second best-selling model in its segment for retail sales in September and the third best year-to-date. The TUCSON Hybrid also led the market as the best-selling hybrid in the retail segment in the UK last year.
Hyundai's electric vehicle sales have shown impressive growth, supported by models like KONA Electric and the IONIQ 5, IONIQ 5 N and IONIQ 6, increasing by 46% compared to September 2023, while the overall market grew by just 23%. Year-to-date, Hyundai has sold 13,396 zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs), representing 18.4% of total sales.
The impressive growth will be bolstered this month as the EV offering expands even further with the introduction of the INSTER, bringing the number of full EV models available to five.
Achieving our best-ever September market share and securing the best-selling hybrid in the UK is the perfect exemplification of our model range’s strength. With six ICE cars, three HEV, two PHEV and four EV – soon to be five with the addition of INSTER – we have powertrains and bodystyles that suit every need. To have grown in all our key areas, and to have massively outpaced the growth in the EV market, is a welcome validation of our strategies to deliver not only the vehicles our customers want, but also the experience they want.
