Enfield-based school, Bishop Stopford’s School has been announced as the winner of Hyundai’s Nominate Your School competition, securing select pupils a fully funded residential school trip next academic year.
The school was chosen from 3,342 entries after parents and carers across the UK were invited to nominate their child’s school. Following a four-week nomination period and a considered judging process, Bishop Stopford’s School was selected as the winning school and will now take part in a residential trip, designed by educational experts to increase children’s attention to learning and wellbeing, at a UK outdoor adventure centre.
Bishop Stopford’s School is a mixed secondary school and sixth form serving pupils aged 11 to 18 in Enfield. The school is a nurturing and inclusive community, welcoming pupils of all beliefs and backgrounds, with its ethos of “believe, strive, succeed” at the heart of school life. Nearly half (46.6%) of its pupils are eligible for free school meals, highlighting the pressures experienced by many families within the school community.
The school is a thriving community where students enjoy a wide variety of opportunities that we have available to offer. Learning outside the classroom is something every child wants to engage in, but there can sometimes be serious barriers that prevent us from being able to provide every child with these experiences. Winning this residential trip removes a significant barrier for our community and gives the selected pupils the chance to experience the trip of a lifetime. We believe that learning beyond the classroom enriches the whole school experience and inspires students to achieve.
I nominated Bishop Stopford’s School because I wanted as many children as possible to have the chance to experience something truly special. I know how much they will benefit from this incredible opportunity, and for many pupils, it may be an experience they would not otherwise have. School trips like this create memories that last a lifetime, while helping children grow in confidence, independence, teamwork and friendship. They also give pupils the chance to learn beyond the classroom in a completely different environment. I’m absolutely thrilled that the school has won, and I can’t wait to hear about the children’s trip!
Bishop Stopford's School – Year 8 children
Launched for the first time this year as part of Hyundai's Great British School Trip programme, Nominate Your School was created to help more children access the benefits of school trips at a time when rising costs continue to place pressure on families and schools.
This academic year, the programme expanded its support to reach an additional 50,000 pupils across the UK, bringing the total number of children supported to more than 210,000 since 2022 and reaching almost a third (30%)1 of schools across the UK.
