Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung visited Hyundai Motor Türkiye (HMTR) on July 30 (local time) to review production readiness for IONIQ 3 and discuss production and sales strategy.
During the visit, Executive Chair Chung toured the IONIQ 3 production line and met with local employees to discuss production and sales strategy.
Hyundai Motor has maintained a manufacturing presence in Türkiye for nearly three decades and continues to strengthen its production capabilities while supporting local employees and communities.
As we prepare for the start of IONIQ 3 production, quality must remain our top priority, and we must deliver a level of excellence that exceeds customer expectations to strengthen our market competitiveness. Above all, we must ensure this vehicle meets the highest safety standards expected by our customers in Europe.
How Is Hyundai Motor Türkiye Preparing for IONIQ 3 Production?
IONIQ 3 marks Hyundai Motor Türkiye's first step into EV production as the facility expands its future electrification capabilities. The facility established production infrastructure for the new model last year and has been conducting pilot production activities since May.
During the visit, Executive Chair Chung reviewed the production process from body manufacturing through final assembly and emphasized the importance of maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety throughout every stage of manufacturing preparation.
Executive Chair Chung also visited Hyundai Mobis' Battery System Assembly (BSA) facility to review battery system production processes for the IONIQ 3.
IONIQ 3 is the latest addition to Hyundai Motor's dedicated IONIQ EV lineup and is designed to meet the needs of customers in Europe. The compact hatchback expands Hyundai Motor's EV portfolio and broadens the company's presence in the compact EV market.
Key highlights include:
- Aero Hatch design, combining aerodynamic efficiency with spacious interior packaging
- E-GMP platform, Hyundai Motor’s dedicated EV architecture
- Pleos Connect, the first application of Hyundai Motor's next-generation infotainment system on a model sold in Europe
- SmartSense, Hyundai Motor's latest suite of advanced driver assistance technologies
Hyundai Motor plans to introduce IONIQ 3 in Europe during the second half of the year.
What Makes Hyundai Motor Türkiye an Important Production Facility?
Established in 1997, Hyundai Motor Türkiye is the company's longest-running overseas production facility. The plant will celebrate the 30th anniversary of production operations next year.
Over nearly three decades, HMTR has continuously expanded production capacity and evolved its vehicle lineup in response to changing market conditions and customer demand. Following capacity expansion projects in 2007 and 2013, the facility developed annual production capacity of approximately 200,000 vehicles.
The plant has produced a wide range of models, including Accent, Grace, Starex, Matrix, i10, i20 and Bayon, reaching cumulative production of approximately 3.4 million vehicles.
Today, Hyundai Motor Türkiye continues to support the development of Türkiye's automotive ecosystem through local manufacturing, supplier partnerships and sustained investment.
Building on the achievements of the past 30 years, we must adapt the way we work to keep pace with a changing era and continue growing. We must pursue continuous innovation and strengthen our competitiveness across production, quality and sales to become one of the leading companies in Türkiye.
How Is Hyundai Motor Group Supporting Local Communities in Türkiye?
Since entering Türkiye, Hyundai Motor Group has supported local communities through restoration, education and disaster relief initiatives.
One notable example is the restoration of Korean Park (Kore Parkı) in Ankara, where the Group restored aging facilities and constructed a traditional Korean pavilion to create a welcoming space for veterans, families and local residents. The Group also provides scholarships to more than 400 university and high school students annually, with cumulative support totaling €1.2 million since 2022, and has planted 22,500 trees in Türkiye through its IONIQ Forest campaign.
Following the 2023 earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria, Hyundai Motor Group provided financial and in-kind disaster relief, including the construction of a kindergarten in Malatya to support affected families.
