Hyundai Motor Group (the Group) Robotics LAB’s MobED (Mobile Eccentric Droid) has been recognized as a ‘Winner’ at the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2026, one of the world’s most prestigious design competitions.
Developed by the Group’s Robotics LAB, MobED is a next-generation mobile robot platform designed to operate seamlessly across a wide range of terrains and applications.
The question was never whether the technology works, but whether it works for people – in the real world, at scale. With MobED’s Red Dot recognition, we have demonstrated exactly that. This is Physical AI in practice, and we will continue to push the boundaries of what it can achieve.
Why was MobED recognized as a Red Dot Award Winner?
MobED embodies Robotics LAB’s ‘Refined Edge’ design philosophy, which focuses on enhancing how robotic systems integrate naturally into everyday human environments. This approach informs both the platform’s distinctive form and its interaction design, enabling robots to feel more approachable, intuitive and trustworthy in human-centered spaces.
The platform integrates the Group’s proprietary Drive and Lift (DnL) technology and an Eccentric Wheel mechanism, allowing it to maintain stability while navigating uneven surfaces, inclines and curbs. This advanced mobility capability expands the potential use cases for robotic platforms beyond controlled indoor settings to real-world, dynamic environments.
In addition, MobED combines functional, purpose-driven design with AI-based control systems, enabling adaptive operation across various scenarios – from logistics and delivery to inspection and autonomous mobility applications.
The Red Dot recognition highlights the platform’s balance of innovative engineering and functional design, demonstrating how mobility solutions are expanding beyond traditional vehicle formats.
Expanding Mobility Beyond Vehicles
As a scalable and modular platform, MobED represents the Group’s vision for future mobility ecosystems, where robotics plays an integral role in connecting and enhancing everyday life.
MobED was first introduced as a concept at CES 2022, and further advanced into a production-ready model unveiled at International Robot Exhibition 2025 (iREX 2025), reflecting continuous development in both design and technological sophistication.
About the Red Dot Award
Established in 1955, the Red Dot Award is organized by Germany’s Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen and is one of the world’s most prestigious design competitions. Judged by an independent panel of international experts, the award recognizes excellence in product design, brand and communication design, and design concepts based on criteria including innovation, functionality and quality. The ‘Best of the Best’ is the competition’s highest honor, awarded only to the most groundbreaking and innovative designs.
