The i30 Fastback is an important milestone in the development of the i30 family, with a new, emotion-led design for the Hyundai brand. This exciting car brings a new shape to the C segment, underpinned by Hyundai’s advanced technologies, efficient powertrains and leading safety equipment. The i30 Fastback delivers a fresh and charismatic design to the i30 family, which now offers customers a diverse choice of cars, each with a unique set of abilities.
Sophisticated silhouette and charismatic proportions
The i30 Fastback is characterised by its strong stance and sporty, elongated lines. The sophisticated silhouette features dynamic sports coupe proportions created by an elegant sloping roofline and a long bonnet. This special silhouette is achieved with a lowered roof and a tight cabin sitting on a bold body.
The i30 Fastback is a distinctive vehicle for the Hyundai brand - we are the first volume brand to enter the compact car segment with a stylish and sophisticated five-door coupe - a car that nobody expected. We were able to design this car from scratch on a blank sheet of paper. Design was our top priority: to create elegant proportions with flowing lines and an attractive profile.
The slim cabin is emphasised by wide wheel arches giving the car a strong stance. The wheel design was specially developed to perfectly match the i30 Fastback’s silhouette: unique 18-inch alloy wheels are available on Premium and Premium SE 1.4 models, as well as specific 17-inch alloy wheels on Premium 1.0, Premium SE 1.0 and SE Nav trim. Using classic automotive design codes, the roof has been lowered by 25 millimetres compared with the i30 five-door, enhancing the car’s wide stance on the road, improving aerodynamics and creating a dramatic impression.
Tapering towards the rear, the cabin has a sleek shape, inspired by the shape of a teardrop. The generously arched rear spoiler is integrated into the tailgate and continues to the rear lights. The rear of the cabin is additionally supported by strong shoulders, which makes the i30 Fastback look capable and assertive.
Dividing and sculpting the surfaces creates a vivid play of light and shadow, adding drama to the car. The C-pillar and the rear windscreen are inspired by the premium segment and designed with refined shapes, reinforcing the car's tapered belt line and its sense of dynamic, strong forward motion.
There are nine exterior colours available for customers to personalise their car, consisting of solid Engine Red and Polar White; metallic hues of Fiery Red, White Sand and Micron Grey; and pearl finishes in Platinum Silver and Phantom Black. New across the i30 range for the 2019 model year are Olivine Grey, Stellar Blue.
Great driving dynamics
The driving dynamics of the Hyundai i30 line-up are rigorously tested and refined by engineers at Hyundai Motor’s European Testing Centre at the famous Nürburgring ‘Nordschleife’ circuit.
The i30 Fastback reveals some significant differences compared with the other body types of the i30 range. By comparison to the i30 five-door version, the chassis of the i30 Fastback has been lowered by 5 mm and the stiffness of the suspension has been increased by 15%. This provides a more dynamic and more agile driving experience while maintaining a high level of comfort.
Thanks to the lowered roof and chassis leading to an overall height of 1,425 mm, the i30 Fastback is 30 mm lower than the five-door body type, emphasising its elegant and dynamic proportions. With an elongated silhouette, the car has an overall length of 4,455 mm - 115 mm longer than the five-door.
Class-leading standard safety package
Featuring the latest Hyundai SmartSense active safety and driving assistance technology, the i30 Fastback democratises technology. Fulfilling the highest European safety standards, the i30 Fastback received the maximum five-star rating from Euro NCAP, with Autonomous Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Recognition, Driver Attention Alert, Blind Spot Detection and Lane Keeping Assist as standard.
Smart connectivity features
The eight-inch touchscreen navigation system is standard on i30 Fastback, with state-of-the-art connectivity featuring both Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™. It enables users to connect their smartphones with the car to control music, telephone or navigation functions on-screen. Furthermore, customers receive a seven-year LIVE Services subscription free of charge, which provides continuous updated information about weather, traffic, speed cameras and access to online searches for points of interest. A wireless charging system for smartphones with the Qi standard is also available with the i30 Fastback to make connectivity features even more convenient.
High quality powertrains for a dynamic and efficient ride
The i30 Fastback powertrain line-up consists of two downsized turbocharged petrol engines.
Customers can choose between the 1.4 T-GDi turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 140 PS or the 1.0 T-GDi turbocharged three-cylinder engine with 120 PS. The 1.4-litre T-GDi petrol engine is offered with the six-speed manual transmission or the seven-speed dual clutch transmission, which gives a choice of fully automatic operation or manual gear changes. The 1.0 T-GDi is offered with the six-speed manual transmission. All engines are fitted as standard with the Idle Stop and Go (ISG) system for increased efficiency.
