It's blistering quick, yes, but a true hot hatch has to be more than that. It has to be a car that can be used every day, for school runs, shopping trips, family holidays and to take rubbish to the local tip. The IONIQ 5 N is a car that can do all that, and yet on a track it's an absolute blooming riot. Dynamically, it's beautifully sorted, and a feature that I had expected to be a gimmick — N e-Shift, which simulates gear changes — proved to be a sensation, really heightening driver engagement. This is the only car any driving enthusiast will ever need.
