Two technicians from Hyundai Motor UK retailer network recently took place in the World Skills Olympics in Seoul to determine the “best of the best” of 75 technicians from 50 countries.
The company’s World Skill Olympics began in 1995 and takes place every two years. It serves as a platform for Hyundai Motor technicians worldwide to demonstrate their skills and exchange technical knowledge. This year’s competition featured 75 outstanding technicians from 50 countries, who earned their spots through regional qualifiers. Participants included representatives from regions, such as Europe, the Middle East, Latin America and Southeast Asia.
Evaluations were conducted in three categories: internal combustion engine vehicles, electric vehicles, and commercial vehicles and included virtual reality assessments, enabling the safe evaluation of challenging, high-risk maintenance tasks in realistic environments.
Representing the UK were Jamie Robinson from Toomey’s Hyundai and James Parker form Richmond Hyundai Southampton, both having finished 1st and 2nd respectively in Hyundai Motor UK’s own National Skills Olympics earlier this year, with Jamie securing a Silver in the ICE Category, with James ranking within the top ten with a highly commended performance.
Jamie and James both gave outstanding performances in the UK Skills Olympics earlier this year so it’s no surprise that their skills were amongst the highest when it came to the World Skills Olympics. Technicians from Hyundai Motor UK’s retailer network are consistent high performers in both the European and Global competitions, an ongoing testament to both the incredible talent within our network, backed up with a high standard of training the Hyundai Training Academy team delivers.
Hyundai Motor UK’s Training Academy has been in operation since 2010 and works with UK, European and Global operations to deliver the very latest in bespoke technical training information and wider product knowledge. Last year, the Academy delivered 3400 face-to-face and 521 digital training days for technicians across the retailer network.
