Press material

Design & Space

IONIQ 3 has been designed to redefine electric mobility in the compact segment through a combination of distinctive design, everyday practicality and intuitive technology. Based on Hyundai's ‘Art of Steel’ design philosophy and the new “Aero Hatch” typology, IONIQ 3 combines aerodynamic efficiency with a spacious interior. Inside, Hyundai's “Furnished Space” approach creates an intuitive cabin environment designed around the needs of European customers.

Aero Hatch

The new “Aero Hatch” typology defines the overall proportions of IONIQ 3. Developed to balance aerodynamic efficiency with interior roominess, the silhouette combines a low front end with a roofline that maximises headroom for front and rear occupants before tapering towards the rear spoiler. The resulting geometry contributes to a target drag coefficient of approximately 0.263 while enhancing passenger comfort.

Art of Steel

IONIQ 3 brings Hyundai's ‘Art of Steel’ design language to the compact EV segment. Inspired by the raw tension and purity found in steel production, the philosophy reduces surfaces to a few deliberate volumes that create a strong and precise visual impact. Each shape originates from studying how sheet metal naturally bends, translating authentic material behaviour into a confident and distinctive design language. Three primary exterior surfaces intersect to create characteristic feature lines, while a single continuous surface extending from the C-pillar reinforces the precision that defines the Art of Steel philosophy.

Key exterior features include:

  • New “Aero Hatch” typology balancing aerodynamic efficiency and interior space
  • Hyundai's ‘Art of Steel’ design language
  • Signature pixel lighting with four central dots referencing the letter “H” in Morse code
  • Target drag coefficient of approximately 0.263
  • Active Air Flap improves energy efficiency in its closed position while supporting cooling as needed when open
  • Wheel options ranging from 16 to 19 inches
  • Eleven exterior colours available
  • Sport-inspired exterior styling for IONIQ 3 N Line

Interior design

Inside, IONIQ 3 follows Hyundai's “Furnished Space” approach, arranging key interior elements more like furniture than conventional automotive components. The result is an intuitive interior environment that combines everyday usability with passenger comfort.

The interior design is shaped by Hyundai's “Curve of Upholstery” philosophy. Main interior volumes are softly sculpted and trimmed in a single, consistent direction, creating clean surfaces that frame the cabin while allowing functional elements such as the air vents and central display to stand out with clarity and precision. Following the principle of "Eyes on the road, hands on the wheel", essential information remains within the driver's natural field of vision, while frequently used functions are operated via intuitive physical controls.

Key interior features include:

  • “Furnished Space” interior concept
  • “Curve of Upholstery” design philosophy
  • Long wheelbase and flat-floor layout
  • Genuine five-seat comfort, including comfortable seating for three adults in the rear
  • Premium Relaxation Seats, heated and ventilated seating depending on specification
  • Open dashboard storage and dual-level centre console
  • Generous luggage compartment with integrated Megabox
  • Subtle "Easter egg" design details throughout the vehicle

Colours, materials and finish

The colours, materials and finishes of IONIQ 3 are inspired by natural landscapes and 1970s Italian furniture design, combining warm tones with carefully selected textures to create a calm and welcoming interior environment. Monochrome colour combinations and tactile materials reinforce the vehicle's contemporary character while supporting a highly personalisable cabin experience.

Sustainability is embedded throughout the material concept. Depending on specification, the interior incorporates recycled PET fabrics, bio-based polyurethane for the steering wheel and recycled materials for the floor carpet, reflecting Hyundai's commitment to responsible material selection.

Hyundai also partners with Healthy Seas to support the recovery of discarded fishing nets from the marine environment. Together with other nylon waste, the recovered material is regenerated by Aquafil into ECONYL® yarn, which is used in the carpet surface layer of IONIQ 3 floor mats. The finished floor mats contain 30 per cent recycled material.

IONIQ 3 N Line

IONIQ 3 N Line offers a more dynamic interpretation of the vehicle's design while remaining true to the underlying design philosophy. Exterior enhancements include a larger black front mask, faceted 19-inch wheels, a larger rear spoiler and a functional diffuser that further emphasise the vehicle's sporty character.

Inside, the darker interior theme is complemented by subtle red accents and a dedicated N steering wheel, creating a more driver-focused environment while maintaining the comfort and refinement of the standard model.
