- The i20 offers a choice of three petrol engines.
The Kappa 1.0-litre T-GDI comes with a choice of two power outputs: 73.6 kW (100 PS), available with a five-speed manual transmission or 88.3 kW (120 PS) mated to a six-speed manual transmission.
As an alternative, the 73.6 kW (100 PS) 1.0-litre T-GDI powertrain can be combined with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (7DCT). The 7DCT offers two drive modes: Normal and Sport. The 1.0-litre T-GDI also features a particulate filter to further reduce exhaust emissions.
Hyundai’s Kappa 1.2-litre engine is available in the i20 with 61.8 kW (84 PS) or 55.2 kW (75 PS). Both versions are mated to a five-speed manual transmission.
The Idle Stop and Go (ISG) feature is fitted as standard across the i20 range, which contributes to better fuel consumption, improved CO2 emissions and greater efficiency. The fuel savings of using the ISG are especially apparent when driving in urban areas, as the ISG automatically switches off the engine when the car comes to a halt.
By concentrating on efficient petrol engines in the i20 range, Hyundai is responding to market demand. The whole i20 powertrain line-up is fully compliant with Euro 6d TEMP regulations.
Ride and handling
The i20 has enhanced driving dynamics. The steering feels more direct, more agile and more fun-to-drive due to a better on-centre steering response giving the driver quicker feedback from the road.
The damping ability of the chassis and wheels is enhanced to reduce impact on the passengers giving a smoother driving experience, even on bumpy roads.
