Tested in Utah: the new Santa Fe Sport concept
The recent 2017 SEMA Show saw Hyundai Motor unveil a series of concept cars, including the Rockstar Energy Moab Extreme Off-roader Santa Fe Sport, in partnership with the energy drinks manufacturer.
When you think of an SUV like a Hyundai Santa Fe Sport crossover, you probably think of it as a versatile car that's just as comfortable driving on a motorway as it is off-road. Now Hyundai, together with Rockstar, have decided to take the Santa Fe Sport even further with the Rockstar Energy Moab Extreme Off-roader Santa Fe Sport concept car. This model is able to withstand the demands of extreme off-roading in Moab, Utah, which is considered one of the world’s most challenging off-road regions, as well as every kind of weather condition you can imagine.
Developed by Hyundai Motor America and tuned by Rockstar Performance Garage, the automotive builder for Rockstar Energy, the Santa Fe Concept was one of four concept cars displayed by Hyundai at the 2017 SEMA Show, the world-leading trade-only event for automotive specialty products. The others were the Vaccar Tucson Sport Concept, which was built upon the Tucson Sport crossover, the BTR Edition Elantra Sport Concept and the HyperEconiq Ioniq Concept – a unique hypermiling-efficiency-oriented concept car.
Moab is a city on the southern edge of Grand County in eastern Utah in the western United States, and attracts a large number of tourists every year to its national parks. It is home to many off-road trails that range from easy to difficult for all types of off-road drivers, from novices to those with lots of experience.
The following video offers a demonstration of the Rockstar Energy Moab Extreme Off-Roader Santa Fe Sport Concept’s off-roading abilities when unleashed on the rocky mountains of Moab, Utah, where it was tested extensively during its production phase.

The Rockstar Energy Moab Extreme Off-Roader Santa Fe Sport Concept
The Rockstar Energy Moab Extreme Off-Roader Santa Fe Sport Concept leverages the Santa Fe Sport platform and powertrain in order to withstand the ultimate demands of the most challenging off-road surfaces in the world. Covered in black and grey camouflage, it features Hyundai graphics on the sides and large Rockstar logos on the rear quarters. It also boasts multiple LED light bars to assist with driving on unfamiliar terrain.
As well as its impressive body design, the Santa Fe Sport concept also features several mechanical modifications to ensure its durability on challenging off-road surfaces. These include a King coil-over suspension, Magnaflow exhaust, R1 Concepts brakes, a Nitrous Express wet nitrous system, and 17-inch Machete wheels with Mickey Thompson Baja MTZ off-road tyres.
