Hyundai previews Super Bowl LIII

With the best of the East Coast taking on the best of the West Coast this weekend, Hyundai – the official sponsor of Super Bowl LIII – prepares for fireworks at the finale of the NFL season.

In a battle of opposing coasts, this Sunday the Los Angeles Rams are set to battle the New England Patriots at Super Bowl LIII in Atlanta. Hyundai, also the official car and SUV of the NFL, is in the city all week and can’t for wait for what is certain to be another epic sporting clash.

Super Bowl LIII

The story of the Los Angeles Rams versus the New England Patriots is one of experience versus inexperience. Sunday will be the Patriots’ eleventh Super Bowl appearance, its third consecutive appearance and the team’s chance to lift the Vince Lombardi trophy for a sixth time in its history.

By contrast, this weekend will see the Rams make only their fourth Super Bowl appearance in franchise history. They have only hoisted the Lombardi Trophy once, when they beat the Tennessee Titans at Super Bowl XXXIV back in 2000.

The Patriots will once again be led by a formidable duo in the shape of Bill Bellicheck and Tom Brady, both five times Super Bowl champions with the team. Belichick, 66, is widely considered to be the greatest coach the NFL has ever seen, while Brady, 41, is seen by many as the best quarterback that has ever taken to the field.

On the flipside, Rams coach Sean McVay is just 32 – making him the youngest head coach ever to lead a side at the Super Bowl. Rams quarterback Jared Goff, 24, is 17 years younger than Brady and has only been playing in the NFL for the past three seasons. Both men are making their Super Bowl debuts with a lot of promise but also a lot to prove.

The 2019 Hyundai Super Bowl commercial

As one of the world’s most-watched sporting events, the Super Bowl is also one of the biggest days in advertising, with the commercials shown during it generating as much – if not more – publicity than the game itself. In Hyundai’s emotional 2018 advert, American football fans were identified by Hope Detectors that detected the hope Hyundai owners provide through donations to paediatric cancer research with the purchase of every Hyundai vehicle in the US over the past 20 years.

The owners were surprised by real-life paediatric cancer survivors, who thanked them for their contributions. The commercial resulted in more than 26.7 million views across various platforms and finished as the No. 2 ranked automotive brand commercial on the USA TODAY Ad Meter.

This year, Hyundai’s 60-second first-quarter Super Bowl ad will star Hollywood superstar Jason Bateman and show how much better car buying can be with Hyundai USA’s online Shopper Assurance experience. As an official sponsor of the NFL, Hyundai will also engage with fans celebrating Super Bowl LIII at the Super Bowl Live fan village in Atlanta.

Here, Hyundai will invite guests to its ‘Fam Jam’ activation, which will include opportunities to compete against friends and family and win prizes by guessing how many footballs fit inside a Hyundai Kona. Following the Super Bowl, Hyundai will donate the footballs to the Boys & Girls Club of America in Atlanta, a partner with the NFL in increasing flag football participation across the US.
