Four more great Easter driving destinations
Easter is a great time to spend with family and friends while gorging on some chocolate treats. With a four-day weekend and spring sun, it’s also a great time to set off on a continental road trip.
Last year, we marked the Easter holidays by highlighting four great European driving destinations. This year, we’ve selected four more exciting road trips across the continent.
From northern harbour cities to the sunny climes of the south, Europe features some fantastic driving routes and destinations that offer varied landscapes and a range of terrain, as well as a host of cultural highlights.
Düsseldorf is the capital of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany’s biggest state by population, and is situated to the west of the country close to the Dutch border. The city is famous for its high-end shopping district Königsallee, and also boasts a number of museums and galleries. Given its proximity to the Netherlands, Amsterdam makes for a great road trip destination. With the cities less than 230 km apart from one another, journeys take less than three hours by car. Once there, you’ll discover that Amsterdam offers a pure-electric car sharing service, featuring 100 IONIQ Electric vehicles. This allows both citizens and visitors to the region to drive completely emission-free.

1. Düsseldorf to Amsterdam

2. Turin to Milan
Our next Easter road trip heads to northern Italy and starts in Turin, which is surrounded by the western Alpine arch and the scenic Superga Hill. It is a city famous for its mixture of historical architecture, from Baroque to Art Nouveau structures. By heading east and taking the Autostrada A4, you can arrive in the country’s second-largest city, Milan, in just under two hours. Nicknamed the ‘fashion capital of the world’ and considered by many to be the world’s design capital, you’ll also find some major museums and art galleries. In 2017, the world premiere of the All-New Kona took place there.
3. Florence to Rome
Staying with the Italy for now, our next stop is the Tuscan capital Florence, which is considered the birthplace of the Renaissance. The city’s historic centre was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982, thanks to its range of culture and monuments. Rome is situated 300 km away along the Autostrada A1, the country’s longest motorway. The Italian capital needs little introduction, and its history spans 28 centuries. The capital of the Roman Empire, it is regarded as the birthplace of Western civilisation and as the first ever metropolis. Last year, journalists were invited to the city to get behind the wheel of the i30 N for the first time.
4. Madrid to Valencia
Our final Easter road trip takes place in sunny Spain, beginning in the capital Madrid. The third-largest city in the European Union by population after London and Berlin, it lies on the River Manzanares and its home to two major football teams, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid. By taking the Autovía A-3 east for 350 km - a journey time of around 3 hours 45 minutes - you’ll be greeted by the sun, sea and sand of the coastal city of Valencia.
Valencia is the country’s third-largest city and one of its most popular tourist destinations thanks to its ancient sites, cultural attractions and beach. It recently hosted the i30 Fastback Driving Experience.
