- Automotive journalists from across Europe witnessed not one, but two world premieres yesterday, as Hyundai Motor launched the two latest members of the i30 range: the i30 Fastback and i30 N.
The city of Düsseldorf in Germany was the location for this i30 Double World Premiere. The i30 Fastback and i30 N have now joined the i30 5-door and the i30 Wagon to complete the i30 range, which is designed, developed, tested and manufactured in Europe. Each member has a unique body type and character.
The eye-catching i30 Fastback features Hyundai’s signature Cascading Grille as well as a lowered, sloping roofline that ends in a generously-arched spoiler line integrated in the body shell, and a strong C-pillar. This new body type gives it a sophisticated twist with an elegant character.
Meanwhile, the i30 N is Hyundai’s first ever high-performance car under the N-line up. Designed for the pursuit of performance, it will deliver thrilling winding road fun as well as track day-capable performance. It has been developed with a focus on corning and race track capability, and recently finished its final development stage at the Nürburgring circuit.
The i30 Fastback and i30 N are the latest milestones on Hyundai Motor’s journey to becoming the number one Asian automotive brand in Europe by 2021.

1. The UK’s Evo acknowledges that the i30 Fastback shares the i30 5-door’s chassis and drivetrain, but in a “sleek new body”.
2. Autocar UK had warm words for the i30 Fastback’s shape. “The Fastback has a lower nose and sleeker roofline than its siblings, mixing the lines of a five-door hatch with the rear of a coupé”
3. France’s Caradisiac praises the “strong” i30 Fastback’s features. “In a time where SUVs are in fashion, with an explosion of SUV offerings from all manufacturers and sales that follow in the same trend, Hyundai presents a novelty that is different... phew, it makes for a welcome change.”
4. Germany’s Autobild compliments the i30 Fastback’s exterior design, saying that its rear spoiler “wouldn’t look amiss on a Porsche 911”.
5. Italian Quattroruote says that the premium style of the i30 Fastback introduces new elements for the C-segment, and that this “opens the door to a wider target audience than ever before”.

1. BBC’s Top Gear praised the i30 N’s “wonderfully driver-focused touches”, reserving particular praise for its “big hugging” sports seats, manual handbrake and illuminated rev-counter.
2. The UK’s Evo says that the i30 N has “all of the ingredients for a killer hot hatch”, highlighting its 2-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine.
3. Autocar UK also praised the i30 N’s engine, which it says “ensures that the i30N outpunches the Focus ST and even Volkswagen Golf GTI in even in its most basic state of tune, placing the new Korean car at the sharp end of the hot hatch segment”.
