The all-new i20 is sleeker, more dynamic, and comes equipped with more advanced technology than before. The press particularly praised its design – the first car in Europe to be inspired by Hyundai’s new “Sensuous Sportiness” design identity.
The all-new i20 features an updated design, advanced connectivity, and more advanced safety features than its predecessor. In addition, it now comes with the option of a 48-volt mild hybrid powertrain and an Intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT), which reduces emissions and fuel consumption. Another option is the seven-speed dual clutch transmission (7DCT).
In accordance with the “Sensuous Sportiness” design identity, the all-new i20 sits -24mm lower, +30mm wider, and +5mm longer than its predecessor, giving it a more athletic stance. The new bumpers, LED headlights, and new grille all contribute to a more dynamic, aggressive appearance. In addition, the all-new i20 comes equipped with high-tech safety and connectivity features rarely found in a B-segment car, including Bluelink Telematics with Hyundai LIVE services, wireless phone mirroring, and a range of Hyundai SmartSense safety features.

BBC’s Top Gear also praised the design, describing the all-new i20 as “positively sexy” and “a properly designed thing”.
Italian publication Quattroruote also complimented the design, writing: “the leap in terms of style compared to the outgoing model is clear. Hyundai has, in fact, designed the third generation of the i20 following the new Sensuous Sportiness language… which has given the compact car a much more modern and aggressive image.”
Italy’s Corriere della Sport, on the other hand, focused on the all new i20’s interior features: “inside, the feeling of great attention to detail is in the design of a dashboard with a total integration of the climate vents … The model in question has made a great technological leap in terms of driver assistance systems, multimedia and related services.”
Autocar similarly highlighted its interior design features: dual 10.25-inch screens, a Bose sound system, ambient lighting technology, and a distinctive horizontal blade running across the dashboard. They wrote that the all-new i20 “represents the beginning of a new era for Hyundai”.
Auto Bild Germany took note of the vehicle’s high-tech elements, calling it a “little Hyundai with big features” and saying it was “reaching above its segment.” Meanwhile, Auto Bild Spain remarked on the “new design, many features and a cockpit concept that we only really knew from the compact class onwards”, writing that “Hyundai is relaunching its small car, and it will be a tough attack on European competition”.

French publication L’Argus also complimented the vehicle on its new look. They wrote: “the Hyundai i20 changes its style completely. A more aggressive look that reflects the ambitions of the brand… the least we can say is that the new Hyundai i20 is gaining in personality”.
This verdict was repeated by Auto Plus, another French publication, which wrote that “the new i20 is getting more personality.”
The UK’s Car Magazine reiterated the message that the all-new i20 brings value to its segment, saying: “it brings a dash of style to the lower echelons of the brand's good-value line-up”.
And the verdict from Spanish publication Motor? “It is a radical change from the generation still for sale, betting on a more stylised, lower and sporty line, but without losing elegance in a very competitive segment.”
