Third consecutive record year for Hyundai Motor in Europe with important new models finishing their first full year of sales

Hyundai Motor has just finished another record year. The most successful year of Hyundai Motor in Europe accounted for sales totalling 523,258 new registrations, according to the latest data from Europe’s auto industry body, the ACEA. Surpassing the European car market average growth, the company showed a strong sales performance with an increase of 3.5 per cent in 2017. Important models like the i30 five-door and the IONIQ completed their first full year of sales, driving overall performance. The company completed the IONIQ range with the IONIQ Plug-in Hybrid, and the i30 range was complemented with the successful i30 N, the i30 Fastback and the i30 Wagon.
As in the previous year, the Tucson followed by the DNA models i20, i10 and i30 were exceptionally successful. The compact SUV is again Hyundai Motor’s best seller in Europe, with sales of 150,000 units in 2017. The IONIQ showed strong sales volumes in the eco-car segment of more than 23,000 units.
Having completed a third consecutive year of record sales shows the strength of Hyundai Motor in Europe. Our strong car line-up meets the expectations and needs of our European customers. With a full year’s sale of the whole i30 range and the Hyundai Kona and many new models to come, in booming segments, we positively look forward to the new year 2018.

Thomas A. Schmid Chief Operating Officer at Hyundai Motor Europe

In 2018, Hyundai Motor will introduce several new models that will support its ambition to become number one Asian car brand in Europe by 2021. The first is the All-New Nexo, Hyundai Motor’s fuel cell model that will celebrate its European premiere at the Geneva motor show. Another highlight in 2018 will be the introduction of the Kona Electric. With the product launches coming to market in the first half of 2018, Hyundai Motor will have renewed 90 per cent of its line-up in less than two years.
