Hyundai Motor has announced a partnership with the Icelandic H2ME initiative to promote the development and commercialisation of fuel cell cars as an alternative to fossil fuel vehicles.
With the goal of encouraging hydrogen mobility in Europe, the Icelandic initiative brings together six leading energy and transportation companies across Europe. As part of this project, and after opening the first public hydrogen station at Hyundai Motor Europe’s headquarters in Germany last year, the company also supports the set-up of the hydrogen infrastructure in Iceland within the H2ME initiative.
With the launch of the Fuel Cell initiative in Iceland, Hyundai Motor will be present in 14 European countries with its Fuel Cell cars. This further underscores our pioneering role in the field of Fuel Cell technology in Europe. As the world’s first car manufacturer to make a mass-produced Fuel Cell vehicle available to the public, we have established our leading position in Europe. The FE Fuel Cell Concept presented at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show provides a preview of the next generation of our Fuel Cell cars.
The FE Fuel Cell Concept represents the next step for Hyundai Motor towards realising its ultimate ambition of creating a zero-emission hydrogen energy society. Previewing a new model to be launched in 2018 it can cover more than 800 kilometres on a single refuelling. Hyundai Motor is demonstrating its commitment to hydrogen-powered vehicles as a sustainable solution for fulfilling future mobility needs. This is underlined by the support of the H2ME initiative in Iceland and the joining of the launch of the Hydrogen Council at the Davos World Economic Forum in early 2017.
Besides Hyundai Motor, the other members currently involved in the Icelandic H2ME initiative are NEL Hydrogen, Skeljungur, INE, Toyota and FCH-JU.
