Hyundai Motor has started 2018 with its best ever first-quarter result in Europe, achieving a 7.5% sales increase compared to the same period in 2017, outpacing the European market growth by 6.9 percentage points. Hyundai’s strong first quarter shows that we continue to meet customer demand, thanks to our growing model range. With the Kona, the i30 Fastback and the i30 N, we are attracting new customers to the Hyundai brand, including design enthusiasts and performance seekers. Moreover, we will further strengthen and renew our portfolio: by mid-2018, 90% of our products will be younger than two years old.

Thomas A. Schmid Chief Operating Officer at Hyundai Motor Europe

Sales in Spain (+34%), France (+24%) and Germany (+16%) have been particularly strong in the first quarter of 2018 compared to the same period last year, driving Hyundai’s overall performance in Europe. The Tucson remains the best-selling Hyundai model in Europe, followed by the DNA models i10, i20 and i30. The success of these models helps to support the ambitious strategy to become the leading Asian automotive brand in Europe by 2021. The European market launch of i30 N has pushed sales for the i30 range in the first quarter, and the i30 Fastback also generated a strong sales start in the first months of 2018.
Additionally, Hyundai Motor achieved a leading market position in electrified vehicles (EV) in Europe. With IONIQ Electric, Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid, the company has increased its sales in this category by more than 50 per cent compared to the same period in the previous year, outperforming the overall EV-market.
In the months ahead, Hyundai will maintain the brand’s positive momentum with several new cars coming to European markets, including the All-New Kona Electric, the New Generation Santa Fe and the All-New Hyundai NEXO. With these new products, Hyundai will continue to offer innovative, cutting-edge technology solutions that are accessible for everyone.
