Hyundai IONIQ one of Europe's most decorated cars

Winning thirteen prestigious European accolades, Hyundai Motor’s IONIQ is now one of the most decorated cars on the continent.
The world’s first car to offer a choice of three alternative powertrains in one body type received amongst others several ‘Car of the Year’ titles across Europe and a five-star Euro NCAP rating in recognition of its outstanding overall performance, design, safety and sustainability.

IONIQ rewarded across Europe


Hyundai’s award-winning car has been decorated for its overall performance in several European countries. Amongst others, the IONIQ was named Car of the Year 2017 in Norway, beating 31 competitors. According to the jury, the IONIQ outperformed competitors on all test criteria and offers excellent cost effectiveness. The IONIQ Electric was also named Car of the Year 2017 in Sweden, where its handling characteristics, appealing design, attractive price and general practicality in everyday situations were acclaimed. In France, the IONIQ Hybrid won the ‘Car of the Year’ title awarded by the French car magazine L’Argus. The jury, consisting of 23 journalists of L‘Argus magazine, appointed the IONIQ is due to its design, spaciousness, and the high quality of its driving and safety assistance equipment. Furthermore, it was voted Family Car of the Year 2017 by the mobility organisation VAB in Belgium. With a total of 180 points, the IONIQ left its competitors far behind. In the Czech Republic IONIQ was named Green Car of the Year 2017. In Switzerland, the IONIQ occupied third place in the rankings for the Swiss Car of the Year 2017 and second place as Switzerland’s Greenest Car.

Euro NCAP’s Best-in-Class Small Family Car 2016


The IONIQ is also among Euro NCAP’s Best-in-Class cars of 2016, winning the award in the Small Family Car category. The world’s first car with three electrified powertrains in one body type was rewarded for its outstanding safety features, with an overall maximum five-star ranking, by the independent vehicle assessment organisation. In the test, the IONIQ achieved top marks in the four categories: Adult Occupant, Child Occupant, Pedestrian and Safety Assist, proving it is one of the safest cars in its segment. The car features a long list of standard active safety features in all versions, including Autonomous Emergency Braking, with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist and Smart Cruise Control.

Hyundai Motor is leading in automotive design


By winning the 2016 Red Dot Design Award and the GOOD DESIGN Awards for 2015 and 2016, the IONIQ is excellent proof of Hyundai Motor’s class-leading design approach. The Red Dot Design recognised the IONIQ’s outstanding design in the Coveted Vehicle category, becoming the sixth Hyundai car to receive a Red Dot title in the past three years. A jury of high-profile designers, professors and journalists awarded the prize to the IONIQ for presenting a future-oriented, evolutionary design and a refined, sophisticated form, as well as for its application of new sustainable materials. The IONIQ also won the 2016 GOOD DESIGN Awards, presented by an international jury of design professionals, architects, experts and cultural leaders in recognition of Hyundai’s successful application of its design philosophy.

Hyundai Motor recognised for its innovations in alternative powertrains


Hyundai Motor is the world’s first manufacturer to offer its customers a complete range of eco-cars from the IONIQ to the ix35 Fuel Cell, the first mass-produced hydrogen-powered vehicle. For this achievement Hyundai Motor won the Technology Award at the Auto Express New Cars Awards 2016 in the UK. The jury announced that Hyundai Motor has introduced innovative and useful technology which will truly benefit the consumer. Hyundai Motor also won the AutomotiveINNOVATIONS Award in Germany as the most innovative volume manufacturer in the Alternative Powertrains category. The prestigious awards are conferred by the renowned Centre of Automotive Management and consulting company PriceWaterhouseCoopers.
