Hyundai i30 N recognised with 2020 Auto Bild Sports Cars Award

Hyundai Motor has won a coveted Auto Bild Sports Cars Award, voted for by readers of the German automotive magazine.

The i30 N was named “Import Winner” in the “Small and Compact Car” category for 2020. Hyundai has now won this prestigious award three times consecutively with its high-performance N cars, following the i30 N in 2018 and the i30 Fastback N in 2019.


The i30 N became Hyundai’s first high-performance production car when it launched in 2017. So far, more than 27,200 i30 N units have been sold in Europe. The Auto Bild Sports Cars Award success follows hot on the heels from another recent honour. Last month, the i30 N won a prominent Sport Auto Award in the “Production cars compact class up to 35,000 Euro – Import” category for the second year in a row. Now the i30 N has been enhanced and it will soon hit the road, with sales starting in Europe in spring 2021.

By winning yet another well-regarded award, the i30 N further underlines its huge popularity with fans of high-performance cars. We recently announced the new i30 N, which promises to deliver even more driving fun on the road and the race-track.

The Auto Bild Sports Cars Award was presented for the 19th time this year. A total of 117 cars competed in five categories, with one winner in each of the individual categories for both import and tuning. The Hyundai i30 N competed with a total of 11 sporty vehicles in its class and received 9.6 per cent of the votes cast. This meant not only another victory in the import ranking but also third place overall.


The voting was carried out online between October and November 2020, with candidate models selected based on testing and driving reports from the past twelve months.

Enhanced i30 N available from spring 2021


The multiple award-winning i30 N, which customers can purchase as a hatchback or a fastback, will soon receive an update, as Hyundai will introduce an enhanced version to the market in spring 2021. The sporty two-litre petrol engine can also be combined with a six-speed manual transmission or, for the first time, a newly-developed a wet-type eight-speed dual clutch transmission (N DCT), which offers paddle shifters and enables three new N performance functions for a sportier experience.


The new i30 N comes with a new front design including a wide cascading grille and new LED headlights with V-shaped Daytime Running Lights, as well as a large roof spoiler at the rear and forged 19-inch alloy wheels. On the interior, customers can enjoy a 10.25-inch touchscreen navigation system and new exclusive sports seats with an illuminated N logo.


The new i30 N also offers an increase in power compared to its predecessor (206 kW/280 PS instead of 202 kW/275 PS). In addition, the latest version of Hyundai’s award-winning hot hatch offers more torque (392 Nm instead of 353 Nm). As a result, the four-cylinder turbo engine’s response behaviour has been optimised, while offering improved acceleration. The new i30 N accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds, 0.2 seconds faster than the previous model. Meanwhile, the new i30 N is equipped with new Hyundai SmartSense active safety and driver assistance features such as Lane Following Assist (LFA) and Blind-spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA).
