In a wide-ranging comparison test undertaken by German Auto Zeitung motoring magazine (Issue 7/2017), the Hyundai i20 came out on top – ahead of its long-established German and French rivals.
The i20 is an important model and Auto Zeitung confirms the confidence we have in it. This is not only proof that we are making good progress in design, quality and craftsmanship, but also shows that we are a leading brand in the competitive B-segment.

Thomas A. Schmid Chief Operating Officer at Hyundai Motor Europe

According to the testers, the Hyundai i20 deserves “its leading position in the small car segment. It is remarkable how meticulously the company develops its vehicles.” The i20 scored particularly well in the categories ride comfort and driving dynamics. A major factor in its top ranking ahead of the Citroën C3, Opel Corsa, Renault Clio and Volkswagen Polo was the state-of-the-art 1.0-litre turbo engine with 74 kW (100 PS) (Fuel consumption combined: 4.6 - 4.0 l/100 km; urban: 5.8 - 5.0 l/100 km; extra-urban: 3.9 - 3.4 l/100 km; CO2 emissions combined: 107 - 94 g/km). The Auto Zeitung was suitably impressed and wrote: “The three-cylinder turbo sounds powerful, it's elastic and high-revving and turns the Hyundai into a top sprinter with a potential maximum speed of 188 km/h.” The magazine also awards the i20 top marks for quality and craftsmanship.
The New Generation i20 also impressed the testers “with its exemplary and economic use of space. Even large and tall occupants have plenty of space in all directions on the front seats.” In the top-of-the-class i20 there is no trace of the limitations normally associated with smaller cars. This also applies to the outstanding braking system, which can bring the car to a halt in 35.6 metres at 100 km/h – a stopping distance comparable with that of a sports car, the testers write.
The i20 also gains further high marks in the Auto Zeitung test for Hyundai Motor’s comprehensive, Hyundai five-year unlimited mileage warranty, which applies to all cars purchased from an official Hyundai dealership in Germany. The magazine's verdict: this makes Hyundai “almost unbeatable”. In addition to the five-year vehicle warranty, the package includes a five-year paintwork warranty, annual safety checks and a mobility warranty which extends to a long-term mobility warranty with no time limit and with no extra charge while the prescribed maintenance work is being carried out by an official Hyundai dealership.
