Since its premiere on the market, the Tucson has been Hyundai’s best-selling car in Europe. Within three months of its on-sale date, the car achieved 85,000 orders.
In its first year of production the compact SUV contributed to Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Czech (HMMC) factory operating at full capacity. Mass-production at the plant started in November 2008 with the Hyundai i30 while a cross-functional team of 80 engineers adapted the production line specially to introduce the Tucson.
Today, annual production capacity at the facility in the Czech Republic is 300,000 cars and 600,000 transmissions. Soon it will begin production of a brand new version of a much-loved car, the New Tucson.
1. Launched in NYC
The New Hyundai Tucson celebrated its worldwide debut at the famous New York International Auto Show. The facelift gives the model’s design a major update, while the car can boast the latest advanced driver assistance systems and upgraded powertrains. This new version is redefining a car that Hyundai has described as its “most important sales driver worldwide.”
2. Award-winning predecessors
Previous incarnations of this driver favourite have racked up high-calibre awards and accolades both for the Tucson’s look and its driving performance.
For example, the All-New Tucson won the prestigious iF Design Award 2016 in the “Product” discipline, under the “Automobiles / Vehicles / Bikes” category. The award recognised the sleek, urban look achieved by the team from Hyundai Motor’s Design Centre Europe in Rüsselsheim, Germany.
The All-New Tucson also won ABC’s ‘Best Car of the Year 2016’, the most prestigious automotive award in Spain. Along with Hyundai’s i20, the Tucson, also came top of the German AUTO TEST 2017 survey, a major customer barometer in one of Hyundai’s biggest markets.
3. Eye-catching design
The New Hyundai Tucson’s eye-catching exterior design is dominated by the manufacturer’s instantly recognisable feature, the Cascading Grille.
A refined new light signature with full LED headlights, an uplifted front bumper, skid plate and a new wheel design add to the refreshed look. In addition, the back of the car is redesigned with an updated rear bumper and muffler and a new rear taillight.
4. Upgraded powertrains
The New Hyundai Tucson is the Korean company’s first model with a diesel mild hybrid powertrain system supported by a 48 V electric motor.
It is the first model in Hyundai’s range of vehicles – and one of the first in the entire industry – to offer this new technology that contributes to the brand’s commitment to a cleaner future.
The technology designed for electrification comprises a lithium-ion battery, a Mild Hybrid Starter Generator (MHSG), a LDC converter (Low Voltage DC/DC) and an inverter. These elements contribute to a reduction in the Tucson’s fuel consumption while accelerating.
5. Production commences
Production of the new compact SUV started in June 2018, with a launch in the European market set for this summer. The New Tucson is designed and built in Europe for European drivers and meets the highest quality standards.
6. Enhanced fuel economy
With the cutting-edge technology employed in the New Hyundai Tucson, Hyundai aims to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by up to 7 per cent. This is further evidence of the manufacturer’s commitment to sustainable green driving.
7. Engine choice
The New Tucson is also available with two gasoline engines offering a choice to European drivers. The 1.6-litre GDI and the 1.6-litre T-GDI offer power and performance while the entire engine line-up of the New Tucson meets the new Euro 6c emission standards for improved fuel efficiency.
8. Packed with infotainment and connectivity features
The New Hyundai Tucson is packed with infotainment and connectivity features to satisfy the modern driver. These include a premium sound system by Krell, a wireless QI standard based mobile phone charger, front and rear USB ports and a seven-inch infotainment screen, supporting Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Bluetooth connectivity.
