6 things that make Hyundai’s All-New i30 Fastback N so thrilling

It follows the unprecedented success of Hyundai’s i30 N five-door hatchback, which has exceeded initial sales expectations since its launch in January this year. After 100 units of its First Edition sold out in Germany in just 48 hours, almost 3,000 i30 Ns were sold across Europe in the first half of 2018.
With a combination of sophisticated, elegant design, exhilarating performance and fun-to-drive features, the i30 Fastback N will join it as an everyday sports car that’s as thrilling on the road as it is on the racetrack. Now available throughout Europe, here’s six things that give it that unmistakable N feeling.

Hyundai’s second high-performance model in its European N range, the All-New i30 Fastback N is set to blaze a trail as the first five-door hot coupe in the compact car segment.

N Grin Control

Performance and practicality for both urban commuting and racetrack driving are well balanced in the i30 Fastback N. While it must be fun to drive every day, this hot coupe still needs to provide a precise, smooth and controlled ride in any situation.
That's why the i30 Fastback N has been equipped with the N Grin Control system, which allows drivers to choose from five different drive modes using dedicated buttons on the steering wheel to match their mood. The different settings – Eco, Normal, Sport, N and N Custom – change the character of the car, adjusting the parameters of the engine, the dampers, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), N Carving System, engine sound, steering and rev matching.

Fast Launch, Perfect Handling

A distinctive standard feature on the i30 Fastback N, the Launch Control System gives you maximum traction for the fastest possible launch. It controls the vehicle to reduce wheel spin or slip on a hard acceleration from a standing start, helping to launch the car like a professional driver would from the starting grid of a racetrack.
The Electronic Controlled Suspension (ECS) further adjusts the performance according to the requirements during cornering, accelerating and braking. As a result, the ride and handling are improved as well as the vehicle’s overall stability on the track.

High-Performance Engine

For a ride that’s guaranteed to put a smile on drivers’ faces, the i30 Fastback N is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine with a maximum speed of 250 km/h, which was first introduced in the i30 N five-door hatchback. Customers can choose between the Standard Package engine, which delivers 250 PS, and the Performance Package engine with a maximum power output of 275 PS.
To make your heart beat faster, the i30 Fastback N’s overboost function is activated as soon as maximum torque of 353 Nm is achieved, further increasing it to up to 378 Nm. The hot five-door coupe accelerates to 100 km/h in a thrilling 6.4 seconds with the Standard Package, while the Performance Package gets there in an even more rapid 6.1 seconds.

Smooth Shifting

The i30 Fastback N’s precise and smooth shift is achieved by its six-speed manual transmission, which creates a sporty feeling by means of a reduced stroke and ensures that the driver always looks forward to the next gear change. The power of the engine is transferred directly to the gear train in order to always be ready for shifting without any torque interruption.
A rev-matching feature is also standard, automatically increasing the revs on the engine when shifting from higher to lower gear for the fastest, smoothest downshifts, whether you're on a circuit or a challenging alpine road. It synchronises engine speed to the input shaft speed for the next gear during the shift process, reducing wear and enhancing durability.

N Corner Carving Differential

For true driving enthusiasts, N Corner Carving Differential – which comes with the Performance Package – is the i30 Fastback N’s Electronic Limited Slip Differential system that guarantees exceptional traction. Specifically designed and engineered by Hyundai to provide a unique carving feeling through even the most challenging corners, this differential maintains stability throughout braking and when entering and exiting corners.
It allows driven wheels to turn at different speeds by applying different amounts of torque to them, reducing wheel slip and minimising understeering in corners. Delivering maximum power to the road, it increases the i30 Fastback N’s maximum cornering speed and delivers the kind of driving fun you’ll want to experience again and again.

Powerful Sound

The Variable Exhaust Valve System, also part of the Performance Package, enables the driver to select different exhaust sounds depending on the drive mode. These range from relatively restrained in Normal mode and more engaged in Sport mode, to the crackling ‘after-burn’ growl with added fuel detonations in N mode, like a full-throttle rally car in fast upshifts.
By using this system, drivers are able to actively control the exhaust valve, as the sound differs with the size of the valve opening. In a car as thrilling as the i30 Fastback N, a more powerful sound makes the driving experience even more emotional.
