Hyundai at the Paris Motor Show through the years

Ahead of the 2018 Paris Motor Show, we’ve taken a look at some of the models Hyundai Motor has introduced in previous editions of the event.
The Paris Motor Show is the world’s busiest automotive event. It is held every two years and in 2016 more than 1,066,000 visitors attended from all around the world. It is hosted at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles, the largest exhibition park in France, and this year’s edition lasts from 4 to 14 October.
This year, 198 exhibitors will showcase new car ranges and the latest automotive technology. Hyundai Motor will celebrate the public world premiere of its new high-performance model, the New i30 Fastback N, as well as showcasing the i30 N ‘N Option’ car and i30 N Line.
Founded by the automobile pioneer Jules-Albert de Dion, the Paris Motor Show was the first motor show in the world when it was held in 1898. Throughout its long history, it has played host to emerging technological and design innovations in the automotive industry, from the first vehicles with independent front wheels to modern, eco-friendly cars.
Hyundai Motor has unveiled many new models at the Paris Motor Show over the decades, from popular production models to exciting concept cars. These are some of the brand’s highlights from previous events.

2010 – Hyundai ix20

Hyundai Motor launched the first-generation Hyundai ix20 at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. A mini multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), the original ix20 boasted design language described as “fluidic sculpture”. The model sold almost 200,000 units before an updated version was unveiled at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show.

2012 – Hyundai ix35 Fuel Cell

Hyundai Motor unveiled the ix35 Fuel Cell at the 2012 Paris Motor Show, becoming the first automaker to begin mass production of a fuel cell vehicle. The ix35 Fuel Cell has an output of 100 kW and its tank contains 5.64 kg of hydrogen, which lasts for a range of almost 600 km (NEDC). The energy is stored in a 24 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery.

2014 – Hyundai i20

The second-generation Hyundai i20 debuted at the 2014 Paris Motor Show, eight years after the first-generation i20 premiered at the 2008 event.
The car’s design employed the company’s ‘Fluidic Structure 2.0’ philosophy and featured a hexagonal front grille and wrap-around tail lamps. A front-wheel drive car, it was available to customers in three- and five-door versions.

2016 – Hyundai i30

After more than 800,000 models of the first two generations of the i30 were sold in Europe since it debuted in 2008, the New Generation Hyundai i30 was launched at the 2016 edition of the Paris Motor Show. Designed, developed and manufactured in Europe, the latest i30 is the DNA car for Hyundai Motor, representing the core of the brand in Europe.

It was designed to meet the modern driver’s preference for a technologically-inspired travel experience, by offering Apple CarPlay and Android Auto along with wireless charging for smartphones for the first time.

2018 – The All-New Hyundai i30 Fastback N

At this year’s event, the All-New Hyundai i30 Fastback N will receive its world premiere, becoming the company’s second high-performance model in Europe following the i30 N. Combining sophisticated and elegant design with the proven N fun-to-drive factor, it is the first five-door hot coupe in the C-segment.
The All-New Hyundai i30 Fastback N was recently unveiled during a world-record drive between Rome and Paris, featuring Hyundai Motorsport drivers Thierry Neuville and Gabriele Tarquini.

Other highlights from Hyundai at this year’s show include the new ‘N Option’ featured on the i30 N, which will include a sporty appearance and performance-enhancing individualisation options for Hyundai owners, as well as the new i30 N Line.
